It probably depends on how Win 7 handles the NPU and GPU. I really would just use 10 at this point.

I did not see anything about price but that is not unreasonable. We were paying nearly $8K for the 1Ds II back in 2004, which would be roughly $13K today. Big tele lenses are much more expensive today though.

I know you IT folks install OS/applocations like a biological function, buy I really try to avoid installations as much as possible. I figure in time, suffering, and software cost it's worth at least $1000 for me to avoid an installation. If I drop a new Granite Ridges CPU into the AM5 sicket...

Canon is so negligent and behind the times that they are just announcing that there will eventually be an R1 by the end of 2024. How lame. https://global.canon/en/news/2024/20240515.html

Not really. I was hoping to just upgrade the CPU from the Zen 4 to Zen 5 with simply a BIOS update for the X670E. If I have to install a new OS, new programs, figure out a usage model, etc. then it's not economically worthwhile, especially the high amount of my time. If AMD is therefore not...

Now it is being reported that AMD is not supporting Windows 10 with the Zen 5, even though 10 is supposed to be good until 2025. The excuse is the need for 11 with AI, but that should not apply to the 9900 series desktop CPUs that have no NPU. And it's not like we need 11 for AMP. :(

Do you think I ever would have stooped to using 8 or Vistas for that matter? ;) The numbnuts at MS destroyed the Nokia phonees with that unholy alliance. We had to use the Blackberries in that era for security purposes. Nobody trusted Windows phones.

There is a site of https://www.canonwatch.com/ and of course DPR, but that Canon rumors was conveniently located.

But will the ARMs for Windows be 11 or 12?

I just want a few days notice so that I can pre-order upon release, often at 0:00 UTC -5. For many products if you don't pre-order you may lose months.

If you are using some kind of archaic video games from pre-pandemonic eras, then the iNtel/AMD/NVidias probably don't care much about your market segement. Much of the new iNtel and AMD complicated integrated stuff is for thin/light laptops or low grade desktops that are not having a video...

I'm not knowledgeable about the efficiency gained by having a single package, but does a 65-105W "APU" outperform the video graphics of a 115W or 160W discrete card and 65W CPU for example? Maybe it's not fair to compare a 2022 40 series GPU to a 2024 integrated video technology, so think about...

The CanonRumors is out of operation as the main dude has left indefintely. It's not clear if he was . It's very strange that the previous guy also left under similar circumstances. 😧

Most all consumer computers need an NPU function for AI by 2025, so the older wimpy ones will be negligent. The chiplet model might have a CPU, GPU, and NPU in one package like Merc said. The hardware/OS cabal is demanding that you upgrade.
