    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Are you still hoping to see something more than 45MP? Looking for Quad-Pixel AF? Other than missing the digital shoe and the lens level correction some of the newer bodies have, the R5 still seems like a dream body to me.

    WD 6TB Mobile Drive

The RAM is for my colo systems. I have a total of 3 SR630s and they're going to have 1TB RAM each.

SSDs follow DRAM pricing patterns. We just happen to be on the high side of the seesaw at the moment. (He said, having just coughed up $3k for 3TB of ECC DDR4).

That's 50% better than the 1dx mk3! Canon definitely has different priorities from Sony and Nikon but with the R3 as sport-centric as it is, I was thinking the R1 would be a more well-rounded device. It may still be. Worst case scenario is that Canon makes a camera you won't buy. C'est la vie.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

My Sony body usually gets used with a wide FOV at medium apertures, lately the EF-S 18-135, or with a 24/2.8, which goes a long way to make my life easy with it. It's also used more for video than photos.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Nearly all the lenses I have are EF lenses. Most of my collection has been offered to me because a doctor friend has bought an RF equivalent. I just use EF adapters on all three of the mirrorless bodies in the house. The Canon EF-RF adapters cost like $75 and work perfectly; most of my lenses...

    WD 6TB Mobile Drive

I'm obviously not the target user for such a thing, but it does give me hope that they're offering a variety of different SKUs. Maybe the more expensive "Pro" models won't be SMR nonsense. The Seagate 15mm 5TB drives are fine-ish as backup targets and they have been reliable in my experience. I...

    Video Cards

I thought Apple's deal was having multiple binaries in the same file such that whichever architecture could run its software without having to worry about compatibility? IIRC That's how it handled the 68000 to PPC and PPC to x86 transitions. My partner has been messing with the A770-equipped PC...

    Ryzen

There's some indication that nVidia is planning a partnership with MediaTek to make laptop and desktop class CPUs that might compete with Qualcomm / Intel / AMD. I'm not sure if we're talking about ARM or x86, but Mediatek's ARM SoCs are notable for being highly competitive with Qualcomm's for...

Mounting Server Disk with RAID Configured in Synology

The first thing that you need to figure out is what sort of RAID your server is using. Synology RAID is functionally Linux LVM and the disk set from a Synology box can be attached to a Linux PC and repaired. But you say the RAID is on a server, and that could be a lot of different things. If the...

    VMware Workstation is now free

Weren't you running your whole IT infrastructure off VMware workstation back in the day? Maybe 15 years ago?

    Ryzen

Probably, if your motherboard at least has one PS/2 port. There are definitely people who have 7 working on 5000-series CPUs.

    VMware Workstation is now free

Broadcom is at this point well known for trashing every tiny bit of goodwill it had by killing ESXi and perpetual VMware licenses, but it has taken the tiny step of making VMware Workstation and Fusion free for individual use. I assume that means they're never going to update it again and it's a...

    Ryzen

I sincerely doubt that will be the problem. More than likely, the issue you'll run in to is that the driver installation packages for your motherboard will refuse to run as straight up executables. That'll be the AMD Radeon-whatever driver for the CPU's integrated graphics; Ryzen Master, the...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

My Google News feed told me that about the time I went to bed last night but there's no specs, so all we know right now is that some lucky stiffs with $7500 to spare will have a really nice Xmas present.
