    F@H half speed on Vista??

    I have two computers running F@H smp. #1 = C2D 6550, 3.2GHz, 4GB ram, Gigabyte P35 motherboard. This is running XP 64 bit. #2 = C2D 6420, 3.6GHz, 4GB ram, Gigabyte P35 motherboard. This is running Vista 64 bit. #2 produces half the WUs as #1. I wouldn't believe the difference in CPUs would...

    RAID Adapter Advice

Be careful with the low end Adaptec SATA RAID controllers. The 2015000-R has issues with some hard drives. It will report the hard drive has failed when actually, nothing is wrong. I have repaced 4 of these in our work computers so far. You have to dig deep into Adaptec's web site to find which...

    RAID Adapter Advice

I found that Acronis doesn't work with Intels motherboard RAID controllers. It will make a backup but when booted from the recovery CD, it sees individual hard drives, not the RAID array. Matter of fact, I believe that I had the problem on a ICH8 RAID controller. Bozo :joker:

If you use one of those adapters, make sure you put some electrical tape on the back of the molex connector. It is very easy to short those solder connections to the hard drive case. Bozo :joker:

Which 24 port "smart" gigabit switch?

We had some Dell switches at work. When sat side by side with a DLink, the only difference was the Dell label and the price tag. The DLink switches were considerably cheaper than the Dells. Bozo :joker:

Your anti-virus software: Which, why, how?

The new AVG 64 bit software is really crippled. It doesn't scan in real time, you must manually scan. And it doesn't get updates automatically. You must do that manually too. Bozo

There has to be a reason the battery went dead. The easiest thing to check/fix is the battery connections. They need to be clean and tight. If the battery is over 3 years old, you may want to consider a new one. And, it would take days if not weeks for an iPod/cell phone/gps device to fully...
