    Large RAID arrays

Generally when you set ou a system with RAID 5, you loose the capacity of one hard drive. If you have 12-750GB hard drives for an 8TB array, does that rule still apply? Or do you loose more than the capacity of one drive? I would imagine it could take a day or more to initialize an 8TB RAID...

AVG users, a couple things I don't like, agree?

All virus scanners are after the fact. The virus or rootkit or whatever comes out, then the anti-virus writters go to work. And, this was a game. I don't think anyone would have thought there was a rootkit in a game (unless it was from Sony). The free AVG has always worked fine for me. It...

    UPS monitoring

I installed a rack mount APC UPS in a remote hub. It powers the network switches in the hub. I installed the APC network adaptor (AP9617) with the thought that I could monitor the UPS. All I wanted was a message from the UPS network adaptor that the UPS was running on battery. ( one of the...

Some better stocked electrnics stores should have a spray cleaner for electronic parts. It should be the type that leaves no residue. Once the electronic part is removed from power and let dry, a cleaning with this cleaning solvent would be advised. This is to remove any residue from the water...

    Partition resizing in Vista

The 3Ware drivers are already installed on the OS. You might be able to clone the OS and install it on the new partition, set the BIOS to boot from the 3Ware (physically disconnect all the other drives not invovled in the boot process) and everything might work. Bozo :joker:

Maybe the crickets like your cooking. About twice a year I fumigate our house. You can buy 'fogging' kits anyplace that sell RAID, DeCon or other pest killers. This seems to keep bug problems under control. Bozo :joker:
