Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

Why me? K8NSC-939 Turns out it has a faulty ATA channel. Why me? ATA and I seem to be allergic. Plus, since it's going to have 64 bit windows, all my scsi cards don't work, so I either buy a new one, or RMA the motherboard. Maybe I can get them to ship a new one, and credit for the old...

What anti-spyware anti-adware combos do you use nowadays?

One thing that has REALLY worked to stop virus, and worms, is scsi drives, an SCAbox now, with lots of ram. I have very little noise from my SCA drives during normal operation. If I start seeing unreasonable, unusual, green lights flashing, the spyware, and Trendmicro are run on this machine...

    Quad-core Opterons in 2006 (H1)

Well, since I've got dual 2.8 ghz Xeon cpus, I will say I love having the horsepower, in particular for video editing, being able to multi-task, and still have processor power to burn. Over my 1.4 ghz Athlon, the dual Xeons were a very big jump. I'll compare the single 64 bit 3000+, with 64...

What anti-spyware anti-adware combos do you use nowadays?

Time: I like that program, Security Task Manager. I don't use this machine much, and, since it's only a P2 400 mhz, keeping unwanted garbage from booting is important. I just found Real Player, and Mac Convervsion in the startup folder, and removed them. No need. Probably blew it with Real...

I use IE, but, I also run Adaware once in awhile, and, I'm usually clean. Seems like turning off auto cookie handling has stopped most of the cookies, and that's pretty much all I catch, though I do get redirects, sometimes, from questionable sites. However, since going to prompt for third...

Apple to announce switch to Intel procs on Monday

WOW :o They did it!!! Where is AMD's home office? It's going to be fascinating to see how they play this one out... Not to be skeptical, but partnering with Apple hasn't been a good career move for IBM, Motorola, Power Computing, etc. Wonder if Intel is going to have better luck? s

1500 hundred for a motherboard? Yes, you too can do this. Buy a mac. It's funny but making upgrades for macs, at least my G3, doesn't appear to be all that easy. I've already tried the powerlogix 900mhz G3, and it wouldn't boot. The alternative is a Sonnet upgrade board, that costs 500...

Apple to announce switch to Intel procs on Monday

Yes, and the Power Computing machines were better then Apple's, often at half the price. I have a G3 333mhz that has half speed ide, 16 mb a sec, and a max pci bus speed of 73 mb/sec., thanks to Apple cost cutting, on a then, top of the line machine, worth 3000 bucks. s

    Really Fast Drive! or ?

Wonder if the card shows up as C drive? I think it's a really cool idea, but, a lot of programs require a c drive installation to work, games in particular. Palm Pilot for another. Should be near the perfect place for a scratch disk for PS, and a great place for the pagefile for XP. s

Apple to announce switch to Intel procs on Monday

On the otherhand, switching is a very good thing for paripheral parts, and cost. Judging by IBM's pricing, I suspect they aren't going to give apple any parts deals likely to increase market share. From what I got out of that article, they describe the different situations that slow down the...

Apple to announce switch to Intel procs on Monday

Well, looks like Apple is stepping into the big leagues. I think what we are going to find is what Apple OS X users have known for a long time, OS X pretty much sucks speedwise, and, the competition is going to make either OS X faster, or MSFT is going to get even faster. I really think this...

Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

Mercutio: You may have an excellent point. I do tend to use some pretty archaic hardware, such as an ATTO dual channel card, 2906 Adaptec, with a bunch of scsi drives, and chances of those ever having 64 bit drivers is probably pretty slim. Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

Yes it is. With the P550 in it, it's a very nice office machine, but, it's on the border for the specs required for the NEC DVD player, processor speedwise. Also, the AGP slot won't take the P650 I'd like to put in it. I think we've had it something like 7 years, and it's on constantly. I'll...
