I use NLite. I can't seem to get it to load SCSI/SATA drivers during the initial part of the install. The motherboard I'm working on now has Intel RAID built in. I've added the drivers but the hard drives are not found. I must be doing something wrong. :o Bozo :mrgrn:

    Windows install shortcut

That will be nice! But, Vista won't be out untl August '06 or later and most research firms (http://software.silicon.com/os/0,39024651,39154185,00.htm) say wait until 2008. That means a lot of 2000/XP installs in the meantime. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Windows install shortcut

When installing 2000, XP, or 2003 you can bypass the "Press F6" for drivers. When you boot up the computer and you get "Press any key to boot from CD" or 'Setup is inspecting your hardware". As soon as you press any key or see "Setup is ...." insert your floppy. The setup proram will read the...

    Time for an Upgrade

I installed the free-be XP64 version on an Intel motherboard without problems. But, I ran into problems getting drivers for a 3Com NIC, an Adaptec 1210SA SATA RAID card, and some other hardware. That was a couple of months ago so maybe things have improved. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Time for an Upgrade

You could have issues with XP 64 and a lack of drivers. That's my only complaint with it. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Time for an Upgrade

I'd stick with XP. There is no real advantage to moving to Server 2003 if you are using it as a workstation. Bozo

    Older Video card?

If the Matrox card can handle the 'native' resolution of the LCD, you should be fine. I've set up numerous LCD screens using the motherboard supplied video without any problems. Again, these are 99% text and no games or movies. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Why Windows Causes Stupidity

Doom3 would not load on 2003 for me. I eventually got it to load with a crack. I haven't had any problems with XP Pro. Maybe Home is different. My present install has been running for over a year. It's even been moved from a single drive to a RAID0 setup. Here is one of the best XP tune up...

    Why Windows Causes Stupidity

If you have to buy the new OS, I would suggest XP Pro. XP Pro is a much improved version of W2K. W2K3 is a server OS and some programs, such as games, won't load. Any backup software or disk utility software you might want to run will have to be 'server' software which cost $$$$$. XP Pro can be...

    Why Windows Causes Stupidity

Where I work we have 9 people in the IT/Process control group, and 600 computers and computer users. What I hear most is "I don't know anything about a computer". That's the way it should be. Why Windows Causes Stupidity

I always thought the computer was supposed to be a tool to do things for us. It was supposed to work for us, we are not supposed to work for the computer. Everytime I try Linux, I feel like I must do all the work. Windows usually does the work for me. I guess I'm just stupid Bozo :mrgrn:

    Spanned disks under w2k3

MS spanned disk are no worse than RAID 0 :-? I wouldn't trust my data to tape either. Tapes stretch, break and lose their data after a while. Tape recording formats are proprietary, meaning you must have the proper software to read them. And don't count on MS Backup. If I remember...

    SATA RAID

The new motherboard is a good idea, except that I would have to buy new memory, new CPU, new video (unless it's on the MB), and a new power supply. You might also consider that if you are preparing a DVD for burning, your software is writing to a temp file on the hard drive. Then you ask Explorer to show you the contents of the hard drive. There might be considerable delay waiting for the hard drive. Bozo :mrgrn:
