I use NLite. I can't seem to get it to load SCSI/SATA drivers during the initial part of the install. The motherboard I'm working on now has Intel RAID built in. I've added the drivers but the hard drives are not found. I must be doing something wrong. :o Bozo :mrgrn:

I installed the free-be XP64 version on an Intel motherboard without problems. But, I ran into problems getting drivers for a 3Com NIC, an Adaptec 1210SA SATA RAID card, and some other hardware. That was a couple of months ago so maybe things have improved. Bozo :mrgrn:

You could have issues with XP 64 and a lack of drivers. That's my only complaint with it. Bozo :mrgrn:

I'd stick with XP. There is no real advantage to moving to Server 2003 if you are using it as a workstation. Bozo

If the Matrox card can handle the 'native' resolution of the LCD, you should be fine. I've set up numerous LCD screens using the motherboard supplied video without any problems. Again, these are 99% text and no games or movies. Bozo :mrgrn:

Doom3 would not load on 2003 for me. I eventually got it to load with a crack. I haven't had any problems with XP Pro. Maybe Home is different. My present install has been running for over a year. It's even been moved from a single drive to a RAID0 setup. Here is one of the best XP tune up...

MS spanned disk are no worse than RAID 0 :-? I wouldn't trust my data to tape either. Tapes stretch, break and lose their data after a while. Tape recording formats are proprietary, meaning you must have the proper software to read them. And don't count on MS Backup. If I remember...

The new motherboard is a good idea, except that I would have to buy new memory, new CPU, new video (unless it's on the MB), and a new power supply. I went with the Adaptec 1210SA, $61.00 including shipping. The LSI cards I found were expensive. So were the Highpoint (quality???) and 3Ware. And...

What's the difference than going to the brick and mortor library, and either reading it there or taking it home? The authors are not getting paid for everyone that reads the book. And with today's technology, a lot of homes have the capability of scanning and printing the book. Bozo :mrgrn:

You might also consider that if you are preparing a DVD for burning, your software is writing to a temp file on the hard drive. Then you ask Explorer to show you the contents of the hard drive. There might be considerable delay waiting for the hard drive. Bozo :mrgrn:
