    Anybody remember non-plug n play?

Macs suffer from a long time of lack of competition. They have had a monopoly on their little market, both hardware, and software, and have made large profit % compared to PC's. This leads to bloated, inefficent, companies. Going 64 bit, really first for current desktops, is going to be real...

 I looked at Tyan's when they first came out with dual Athlons. The Thunder had a bunch of problems not to mention a screwy power supply connection. The Tiger MPX dual board looks ok, and has worked for awhile. Tyan has a history of using Promise chips on their mobos. I don't think...

    Moving (Sucks)

Funny, I've been getting ready for the same sort of thing. Landlords' forced us to sign a less that went from 1320 to 1390, and another 100 a month in fake utility bill, plus requiring insurance, and saying ....it's screwed. At the time, I didn't have time or money to contest. Now I do...

Howell: My two mobo choices are Tyan and Supermicro. I like the idea of buying a super stable, server board, and Asus was certainly not that. The Tyans that I wanted, at the time, where just as expensive as the SM boards. I'm shopping. I like the onboard scsi chips of the server boards...

Thanks The reason I was asking splash is he's pretty familiar with Supermicro Computers mobos. I was trying to find some sort of value in their offerings, but still be blazing fast. He has set up machines to run 24/7 on those boards, and that's kind of what I'm thinking of right now. I'm...

    Update on computer mini-network server

Well, thought I had a pci sound card laying around. Turned out to be a Soundblaster awe64. One in the machine was a SB 32 PNP. Sound quality is excellent, uses a bit more cpu. Both ISA cards. While not the best sound card I've got, it sounds really good playing music. Fun setup. gs

    Update on computer mini-network server

Quick networking question. Seems like whenever I do a large file backup from Lisa's remote computer to another computer, it takes up all the bandwidth, and makes access to the internet, through the router, impossible. The cure is shuting down the computers, and the router, and hub, waiting a...

My feral cat on a bad day...

Elephants are smart, difficult to move, and they just don't have the resources to keep up with the breeding. Same with most of the Africian animals. Hmmm. The picture is pretty good. In fact it's brilliant and clear. Do you really think it would be noticeable to upgrade the video Card? It's a Dell version of a TNT with 16mb of ram. Is there anything wrong with running at 75% CPU? I'm using MGI Soft DVD Max by the way. I could install...

Hmmm. Mercutio, it's using 75% of the cpu, and I just finished watching Star Wars attack of the Clones. The graphics quality is pretty incredible. If you think the ISA is a bad idea, I could install a Creative Blaster pci based card. It's just that compatibility wise, I've found the older...

Well, it seems I've been promised again. The only ide channel avaliable sucks. It crashes everytime I try and update the drivers. I'm going to see if it's something to do with the VIA updates for the motherboard, but I really just think it's a bad chip on the mobo. For some reason I thought...

[NEWS] - Raptors in RAID articles

It's a weird time. I've always wanted to setup a 64bit/33/66/mhz bus board. Problem was at the time I wanted to do it, it was WAY too expensive. Other problem is the raid card I bought is 32 bit/33mhz, not the 64 bit, backwards compatible that I thought I had spent 700 bucks on. I'm really...
