So performance numbers released for the 5090 today, videos available at all the usual sites. Seems like 30% actual performance increase from 30% more transistors drawing 30% more power and costing 25% more money. No efficiency gains, just more fundamental power. Unless you're doing AI stuff...

...and done. Replacement part just arrived. According to the package tracking, it was about 30 minutes between them receiving my old CPU and them shipping the new one to me. My guess is there was to testing or troubleshooting, they just wanted to confirm that I shipped them a valid part.

Intel had a DHL guy come by and pick up the processor today. It will be at their service center in the Netherlands tomorrow, and according to their brief I should have a replacement next Monday.

Friendly tip. When building an Intel system, take a picture of the top of the CPU and file it away. If you ever have to do an RMA, they might not even begin the troubleshooting process without that picture. I didn't want to take the computer apart until I got the new CPU (It was working well...

Dev work and management seem to be more forgiving of age than IT itself. Sure I was looking in a different market, but I feel the perception is similar. My buddy and former business partner (the dev) has been turning down work, where I had to found my own company to get a job.
