Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

The tripod isn't for video. Especially not in the traditional pan/tilt sense. It would be for photos (long exposures) or as a base for the gimbal when doing automated panning timelapses or panoramas.

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

Well, I will gladly accept donations. This isn't a photography trip. I'm going on a tour and am bringing a minimalist setup for taking decent video and photos. Per demon? Exactly what sort of trips are you taking and where are you finding your help?

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

$200 for 4TB isn't that cheap IMHO. Sure, in the grand scheme of things compared to the cost of cameras, lenses, and other accessories, it's not really expensive, but I just don't see that much value in the device itself. I'd rather buy $200 in SDXC cards capable of at least U3/V30 performance.

    Home Mesh Network With OpenWrt?

paging @ddrueding I haven't done what you're after. I think this was discussed previously in a thread or two here, but it didn't seem like there was a clean solution without spending a fair bit on higher end hardware.

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

Canon really knows how to hit it out of the park with a new camera in 2019 that wouldn't have at the top of the pack even if it had come out in 2015. The early reviews from people who actually bought it are pretty brutal as opposed to the flowery spin from the people Canon gave a camera too...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

Probably not. I just seems like an overpriced & uninspired piece of hardware. I think I'd rather spend the money on cards instead and do my best with my phone + hub rig.

Not necessarily. Do you have one? How fast does it read the card and copy it to the internal HDD?

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

Originally I was thinking to dump the cards and reuse them. But then I was thinking that I'd like to have the pictures backed up which would mean leaving them on the cards and making a second copy to the HDD. 4k Video is rather large though. I suppose one option would be to not copy off the...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

I got the Rocketek today and tried it out. I supplied power to the hub with a micro USB from a standard 2A USB charger, plugged in the 5TB 2.5" USB 3.0 HDD to the hub and put a SD card in the card slot. I was able to copy 9.xGB of files to the 5TB HDD without any issue using Solid Explorer and...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

I don't see why it would be much different than using a PC. It's just a different OS with the two devices connected to it. If the phone or tablet has USB 3.0 it should be just as fast as a USB 3.0 PC. My current phones and tablets don't have USB 3.0 though. Android has native OTG support now...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

Well, both of the devices I linked to have provisions for providing external power to them. I tried connecting my Seagate 2.5" 5TB USB 3.0 drive (formated to exFAT) to my phone and copying data to it, but it made some funky noises that made me nervous during the copy. I expect the phone...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

Has anyone made a setup to backup / save content from their camera's memory cards to another card or HDD without a laptop? I've read a few articles that say it's possible to use your phone or tablet's USB OTG capability with a USB hub to connect a SD card reader and a USB HDD simultaneously and...

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

That would be to shoot handheld video or to shoot motorized pans/sweeps (you can set up motion points with the phone app and have it move between at a programmed speeds). I'm thinking to get the new Sony RX100 VII ahead of a trip I'm taking overseas in the fall. I think it's overpriced, but no one else has a viable pocketable travel camera like it. The video from the new Canons (G7X III / G5X II) looks underwhelming and the early reports talk about overheating...

  34. S

    Ryzen

That's not what I meant. I meant saving money as in the accrual of more money to afford a more expensive build, not that those components were going to get cheaper.
  35. S

    Ryzen

The CPU is cheaper at Microcenter. The build is a little low end. What's the 1TB HD for? Why not skip it and get a larger SSD? I'm not entirely sure how much better can be done for the price though. The goal is pretty tough. I'd be tempted to wait and try to save a few hundred more dollars.
  36. S

    Ryzen

Maybe. It does look like there are a few sub $200 X570 options though.
  37. S

    Ryzen

And give up about 10% CPU performance.
  38. S

    Ryzen

When did $300-400 become the price for a mainstream enthusiast motherboard? The X570 boards seem to be quite expensive and the Ryzen 3xxx chips see to have a noticeable performance drop when use in the other chipsets.

The FireTV Stick 4K wouldn't be my choice for Kodi usage. I only got it for Prime Video. I'm not running Kodi on it nor do I have any plan to. I might try it just to see if Kodi has the same frame drop/repeat issue though. It can't do passthrough for any of the lossless video codecs. You...

    Something Random

I have not. FWIW the people on the Kodi forum say the FireTV Stick 4K has better picture quality than the Shield. The low price ($25 during Prime Day) and feature set had me starting there since I got it mainly for Prime Video playback (this is my first foray into streaming). However, it...

    Something Random

I have to say I'm pretty unimpressed with the FireTV Stick 4K. It's real slick from a UI and feature set standpoint, but it doesn't seem capable of playing back video at the proper frame rate without slight stutters from dropped/repeated frames. I mean that's only it's primary job. :poop:

    Ryzen

50% more money on the CPU (supposedly) for something like to 33% more performance... Depending on the pricing of the Zen 2 based Threadripper they still might make more sense. Even if the 32 core one is 2x the price of the 3950X for ~2x the performance it'll still likely be cheaper to build...
