I am trying to decide on two bays of NAS. Should I alloctate a spare "hot" drive? It's not clear if the drive is spinning always or if it it powered, but the NAS only spins it up when there is a need to resilver the array.

The problem with good insulation is that it keeps all the heat and humidity in. I find that in a medicorely insulated place that I turn on the AC to 70°F when the temperature outside is >55°F. That must be all due to internal energy. If the home were well insulated, it would be worse.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

The new FW 1.81 for the R5 doesn't do much but allow for 9x sampling (via IBIS) and produces 400MP jpg files. RAW is not allowed. There was substantial bogus hype surrounding the update. Of course many folks are upset with Canon rather than the sleaezy vloggers that invent the ridiculous...

I lived in Europe for years and the summers were bad indoors. At 21°C outside it will probably be hotter indoors and fresh air probably humid. One of the best benefits of AC is that it drops humidity to 40%.

    NUC 13 Out of Whack

I would not have complained about having an H series. ;) Yet there must have been room for 2280 so that we could use a leftover M.2 SSD instead of that stupid 42mm length. Those goofy small towers that are NUC Extreme make even less sense.

    NUC 13 Out of Whack

My previous NUCs have a 2.5" bay. At least they could give us a regular M.2. What is the issue with the P series?

Bummer. If it's not worth fixing your 135/2, there are plenty of used ones out there, many in fine condition. Everyone is getting the RF 135/1.8, but deliveries are slow.

    Need a Decent Phone

According to what I read online the A54 uses an Exogenous CPU, but the Samsung USA website does not specify it. What is the issue with the Samsung CPUs? I don't order anything of much value from the Amazon. There is too much counterfeit crap on there. In this case maybe grey or diverted...

    NUC 13 Out of Whack

https://www.storagereview.com/review/intel-nuc-13-pro-mini-pc-review I mean, WTF are the Intel doing with a stupod design having one M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 and one M.2 PCUe 3.0 2242?

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

It's probably cheap lighting. But to be clear, is this issue with both ES and MS? Some cameras have really slow scan times and that cannot help. When people first started using 35mm seriously there were a lot of complaints about the focal plane shutter (about 1/60th-1/80th at the time) compared...

Individual houses sure do burn down and with high winds so do neighboring structures and whole blocks, but maybe not so much in NYC. Anyway the point was that a NAS would be more valuable than a computer that can easily be replaced. The Dabnish keyboard is kind of whacky so I might be...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Firmware will not change the slow scan ES (rolling shutters) of the R5 nor the 12-bit A/D in ES. It won't fix the spot AF either. I expect that Canon will make the FW of the R5 more similar to the others for the AF controls, videos, etc. but that won't help me much.

The Z8 is rumoured for Tuesday, but I'm not so sure. We should know more by now if it is true. Combined with the impending major R5 FW update implying that there will not be an R5 II this spring, it may be that we are SCREWED out of good new bodies yet again. :(

Yes. EWR is another option (heavily Untied) and a larger airport than LGR. In the Southland you have Burbank to the north, Ontario and SNA as alternatives. I was in Ontario once due to the fogs, and maybe SNA when it was the Orange Country airport. BUR is more accessible to Ventura Co. and...

    WD 18TB and 20 TB

I don't think the cost per TB of the drive is the issue, but the cost of storage including the entire infrastructure.
