Hi!
I have a Promise VTrak E610S storage array with 16 SAS 1TB hard disks, 2 RAID controllers, four 3Gb SAS host interface ports per controller. I want to use DAS.
My problem: how do I connect the storage array to the blade server? I guess it must have some kind of PCI interface with SAS connectors?
The server does have a Intel RAID Controller SRCSASJV with two SAS external and two SAS internal connectors. Only one of the internal connectors is used. Can I plug in the storage array in one of the external SAS connectors?
I am kind of new, especially in storage administration.
Please help,
Thank you.

I'm not familier with your Intel controller, but I have used an Adaptec controller with two internal and two external ports. All four ports could be used at the same time. I would surmise that the Intel controller would work the same.

BTW, Welcome!

Still can't connect

Hi and thank you!
The problem is not actually the RAID controller, but i don't know if it is what I need. The manual says I need:
• Two SAS HBA cards in the Host PC or Server
• A network switch
• A network interface card (NIC) in the Host PC or Server
The latest two are no problem, as they are for management, which I did. I succeeded to configure and assign an IP to the drive enclosure, and enter the management console, create RAID arrays, etc.
But what are "two SAS HBA Cards"? HBA stands for Host Bus Adapter, is my Intel card from the server one of them??? That's the question.
Needing two is no problem, as I have one spare, I installed it and made the connections to the external ports, between the cards and drive storage, as shown in the manual.
Now when I enter the BIOS of the Intel RAID adapters and check for the VTrak storage, it find it as: "unknown bad or unconfigured".
What next?
