Intel to cease manufacture of desktop motherboards

Not any time soon, but that's still a pretty huge issue for those of who build and maintain systems.

Wow. I could imagine them cutting back from the bazillion different models and sub-models they currently make, but cutting out entirely?

My prediction would be that they do this, then when the market stagnates too much they get back in to keep everyone honest.

Intel motherboards are essentially rebadged Foxconn products, but I've paid for Intel due to the quality of the attending support. I'm guessing they've crunched the numbers and decided that the ROI isn't there to keep working in the desktop space. Perhaps we should look at this as an early warning sign as to the shape of things to come?
