Well, it's that time again (actually, it's well past that time again) - time to nominate a new moderator to join our select band. As usual, this is for an 18 month term which will start from the 15th of October 2002.

Just as a reminder, our current moderators are Mercutio and Cliptin (Flagreen is concentrating on other tasks).

I nominate Professor Wizard.

He gets on my nerves sometimes  but I think he would do a good job.

I nominate Jake. We need someone reliable and I would prefer someone outside US this time, since all our past moderators have been from there and this is supposed to be an international forum (Tony had access to the moderation forum, but he wasn't a mod).

Jake has shown in the past that he has a good enough maturity and judgement level IMO to be up to the task. The Giver might object though ;-)

I also nominate Jake. He's a good guy.

The last thing we need around here is another treacherous Yankee moderator; right Coug?

I'd like to nominate jtr1962

I did a quick review of his posts to confirm my opinion of him and concluded that he would make a fine moderator. From what I can judge, his ethics/values are good and he is cares. He also listens and thinks about what is being said. He does not assume that he is always correct. He also does not go-off half-cocked with just an impulse: I think he has needed maturity and emotional self-control.

Some fine nominations there, but I too second Jake's nomination. (JTR and PW are good men, but you humans need the common sense that only a furred creature can bring.) By the way, is this some sort of a world record? Having 400% more moderators than we have had moderation events? Just goes to show that the policy is working well!

Just in case there was a grain of seriosity in this comment, that's not what I meant. The current mods are doing a fine job and I have no problem with the American members of this board (anyway, we won't get rid of you so better get used to it ;-)...oops! Doug is American too  ). I simply prone diversity, that's all. I would have made the same remark if all mods would have been Ozzies, for instance.

Has there every been an incident when a moderator was actually needed here?

I think there was once, when James posted a link to some Warez or something.

Plus, if you are a moderator you can check everyones IPs...and fix spelling errors in your posts.

I am omnipresent
As an aside, moderators HAVE occasionally made minor changes to posts for users here, but the editing of one's own posts is strongly discouraged.

But it wasn't really a real moderation as James was mostly only curious to see if they were alert or not. Also, there was the time I posted a particularly stupid bit of spam from a porn site (because it was so stupid that no-one would want to visit it) and Wild Bill Hiccup deleted the post and then realised that it wasn't actually pornographic after all and put it back in again.

Still, I guess two half-incidents adds up to one whole incident, hence my 400% figure above.

... and I've since reformed.

Okay, I'll leave this thread going until the end of the US weekend, then run the poll for a week (unless a clear winner emerges earlier), then nominate the new moderator in time for them to be ordained on the 15th.

So far the nominees are...

I'm not feeling very cuddly lately.

I think I just started a flame war with a guy over at SR. Had a touch of Giveritis, I guess. It may well be that I end up apologizing to him unreservedly, but he reminds me too much of that guy before the MDF; you know, the one that wanted to move to Australia and managed to out-insult Supercaf.

Anyway, the avatar probably reflects my currently volatile disposition, so I don't think I should be included in the nominations for the twenty-third moderator. Thanks to Buck for nominating me, and to Cliptin and James for the helpful hints in choosing weapons.

You were a little blunt, 'tis true, but he made the big silly statement that invited it. Hey, you stick your neck out, you get your head kicked. That's what he did. It was an elegant, professional head-kick. What, in football terms, would be called a hard but strictly within-the-rules shirt-front.

I know it's a little late, but thanks for the nomination, Mark. I had a death in the family so I've been out out the loop as far as SR and SF goes for the last two weeks.
