While I was screwing around with the fish tanks, my cat took off, onto the golf course. Looks like she's really gone, this time. Before, she would run out, and then come in.

This time, looks like she isn't coming back.

Trying to deal with that. It's like loosing a child, or surogate child...

Sorry to hear that, Greg. Maybe she saw something, chased after it, and got lost? Is she old enough to want company? Maybe she'll come back after a liaison?

She's nuetred, but, she's about 2, so, I'm thinking the feral part seriously took over, and, she was going to go, period.

It's tearing both of us up, big time. I'm sitting here, thinking about her cute face, as she digs her claws into my knee, to get my attention, then runs before I can pet her...

That's a really shitty thing. Sorry to hear it.

On the other hand, cats do know where home is. Your little buddy might surprise you.

I've had cats disappear for days, especially around this time of year, and in the spring. Don't give up hope just yet. :)

My brother's cat ran away in April 2004. I went by his house that night looking everywhere but she was nowhere to be found. He put some food out. Next day she was outside his door. Two months later my brother moved in with us. In January he moved to his new house but didn't take his cat until two weeks ago. In the 14 months she was with us Cleo ran out a few times, once for the better part of the night, but always came back. Amazing considering that our house was unfamiliar turf.

It's likely your cat will stay close to home, and return sooner or later. Put some food out, check periodically, even leave a door partially open if it's safe to do so where you live. Cleo volutarily came in all the time. Maybe she just had some wanderlust but returned when she saw there was nothing out there. I'm guessing your cat will come back once she discovers that she can't eat regularly on the outside.

Here's Cleo sitting on our stove:

Our cat was eaten by coyotes. :(

This is my fear, as well. We live on a golf course, and, our cat did love looking out the window. I'm thinking at this point that having a half wild animal, and keeping it inside, maybe what we wanted, but not what the cat wanted.

She's good at hunting, and, squirrels and mice are all over the place.

I do have the food out, and, I've got the door open. I'm concerned about the coyotes, but, I can't control that. I've only scene one, and that was running accross the road late at night, a couple years ago. I don't think it's legal to shoot coyotes in Walnut Creek, Kalifornia.

Today I'm going to post the notices with reward, and hope she comes back.
It's been very cold a couple days, read around 50, for this time of year, and that didn't bring her in. My girlfriend has been staying up late, on the with the patio door open, but, no luck.

Also, many people do have out door cats, and leave food out in this complex. I'm afraid she may get in a fight, and get mangled.

But, if she wanted out, she was going to get out, no matter what.
We didn't name her Al Capone, AKA Jumpster, for nothing. She's pretty much destroyed our screen door, opening it with her claws, and getting out, and, I had to put a latch on the door.

We'll see what happens...

Jumpster's BACK :excl: :excl: :excl: :excl: :excl:

I spent a couple hours setting up a 200 dollar reward poster, and right before I went out, I went out by the golf course, and started calling for her. I heard a meow, and it came coming closer, and guess who it is????

:jumpin: :jumpin: :jumpin: :jumpin:

Anyway, she appears to be fine, and, also she seems REALLY glad to be home. She let me pick her up, I fed her, and now she's ready to take a nap, close by. Jumpster is a lot like a dog, in that she really likes our company, and stays within 5-8 feet of one of us, whenever she can.

When I closed the screen door, she took a brief glance, and came into the house, looking around, and checking everything out.

I want to REALLY thank everyone for the support, and it really helped hearing about your experiences with cats, since this is my first ever cat.

Thanks again,

Sincerely

Greg

I'm happy for you that she came back. :D

Believe me, cats know where home is. Even though she was feral earlier in her life, I'm sure she is quite attached to you by now so it's no surprise she seems happy to be back. Cleo had a similar background. Some of my brother's friends found her in Egypt and brought her back. For about a year she lived in an apartment with a few guys (sort of a Friends situation) without receiving much attention or proper food. For whatever reason her owners couldn't keep her any more and about 9 years ago asked my brother if he wanted a cat. When he first took her she had colitis and some other dietary-related ailments. My brother eventually nursed her back to health. Because of her formative years Cleo was never a lap cat, but like "Jumpster" liked to be in the same room as people. When she was living with us she developed quite an attachment to me and followed me around everywhere. I was actually sad when my brother took her back but he said she's adapted just fine in the new house, and follows him around now like she used to.

Anyway, enjoy the moment since it seems she's happy to see you and you're happy to have her back. Who knows why she ran out (sometimes just instinct). If at all possible, take precautions to avoid it happening again since I'm sure she'll try again. Every cat we ever had always tried to get out, even though most of them generally spent their entire lives indoors. I'd say curiosity just gets the better of them from time to time, or they get a bad case of wanderlust.

Her leaving was my giving her the chance. I was furious at, of all things, fish tank pumps. I had 3 400 gal an hour pumps, about 80 bucks each, and they all got REALLY noisy, at once. So noisy you couldn't sleep in the same room with just ONE of them, and, with the three going, it was REALLY annoying. I cleaned each one, tweaked it every which way, no joy. Pulled parts from one, and swapped back and forth, still noisy. Finally started throwing the damn things out the door, onto the golf course. Even though I was watching for her, she still got out, when I turned my head or something, and, I thought she was in my room. REALLY STUPID on my part. Or, when I went out to pick the damn pumps up. I got rid of two tanks, 4 pumps, bought one new one, and put all the fish in the 50 gallon tank.
I also KNOW Jumpster's hearing is REALLY good, and, if it bothers me, it maybe killing her. When we watch movies, she goes in the other room, etc.
So far, it's working out well, since I hardly had any fish in the 50, and adding 10 did it no harm, plus, there is lots more swimming going on in the tank, now.

In retrospect, besides wanting to get out, Jumpster may have thought my anger was with her, and nothing was farther from the truth.

Woke up the next morning, and Jumpster was missing. She could also have escaped on my girlfriends watch, after I went to sleep.

Anyway, she is a feral cat, and she loves looking outside. Today, all she's doing is eating, and sleeping, and being very friendly, and meowing in a new tone I'm not familiar with.

Didn't mention this, but looking around here, I've seen more Tuexdo cats then you can believe. Next door has a bigger, male version of Jumpster, that jumps from the lower balcony, to the upper balcony, effortlessly, and lives upstairs. That cat has a female twin, that's VERY affectionate, right up until you try and pick her up, or she feels she wants out of your house, then she is VERY good at biting, sending my girlfriend to the hospital, and leaving two large, deep holes in my arm. I pet her, but I don't feed, or let her in the house, or near Jumpster. Don't need the vet bills.

I've been walking down the golf course, and, it's a smorgasborg for cats.
People leave their windows and doors open, and the cats come in and out. Food is out all the time, and, therefore, I wasn't worried about her, or at least not that much, after walking around yesterday.

I saw another cat, in a persons house, that is the TWIN of Jumpster, both in size, and pretty much face and coloration. Only difference is no collar, and, bobbed tail. While I was calling who I thought was Jumpster to come out, since no one was home, another guy came down, and asked if I had scene a big, blue cat. Sure enough, the big blue cat was in the same apartment, taking a couple day vacation from her owner, and she came out, after a bit of calling. That house also has a giant cat that has come down to our house, called Tiger by us, since he's stripped, and huge. He also has, I found out, two very pretty, well endowed, women who look after him, and appear to be rather intimate.
Every guys dream.

Anyway, with all those cats around, wasn't too worried, since the last Coyote I'd scene was about 4-5 years ago, IIRC.

I did get a crying girlfriend call, at 2 in the morning last night, so, we both went through various degrees of grief while Jumpster was gone.

My girlfriend has a thing about feral cats, and has had 3, with Jumpster being the third.

One was eaten by a coyote, the other was an indoor/outdoor cat, that, when they moved from their old house, to a new place, the cat left one day, and never came back. So, you can see why she was really loosing it.

I'm ecstatic to have her back, and, right now, she's sleeping. I guess her couple days and nights out was really stressful on her, as well as us.

Again, thanks all for the wonderful help, comfort, and comments on dealing with the situation. Even us old dogs get faced with new situations, and problems, and need all the help we can get.

Sincerely

Greg
