Anyone going to the Penny Arcade Exo (PAX) East coast (Boston)?

I got a 3-day pass to the event. It's March 26th - 28th.

That's the weekend after the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo, which already has me missing two days I normally work.

Whoops. It was in March. My thing isn't until NEXT month.
Oh well.

What goes on at a PAX, anyway?

My friend from Wyoming swears she's the person who introduced whichever of the Penny Arcade guys to the term "yaoi" (Japanese romantic gay porn cartoons), an experience which wound up in an editorial a few days later. She's a Washington native and used to do Anime/Science Fiction conventions out there so I guess it's at least possible.

I'm almost afraid to ask why she is reading the "yaoi."

What are all those people doing? Is that convention for the law enforcement community?

I used most of my training budget to go to Strange Loop. I don't think I could get budget to go to a gaming conference anyways.

I wouldn't expect a training budget for this kind of event unless if you're in the gaming industry. I'm just fortunate they chose Boston to host it for the next 10+ years.

On the opening day everyone queues in to get the swag bags and enter the expo hall. Last year there were some 65K people there at various times. The convention is for gaming and geek-related activities (but mainly focused around gaming). There are speakers, panels, events, expo hall, music, and table top gaming where you can free-play, learn, and/or compete in tournaments. You can meet the developers of the board games. People like Steve Jackson are commonly present and you can sit down with him and play his games at a dozen different tables.

PAX is run by ReedPop, the same convention group that handles my favorite con, C2E2. From a convention-going perspective, C2E2 has never been anything less than completely satisfying: Exquisitely well-organized and full of compelling content. Since PAX is run by the same folks, I'm sure it's the same awesome time. I'd go to a ReedPop con because Reedpop is running it.
