Seagate is offering the Momentus 7200.1 100GB PATA drive (model ST910021A) for $97.50, and the Barracuda 7200.9 500GB SATA drive (model ST3500641AS) for $162.50 (limit one each) to Seagate Partner Program members.

It costs nothing to sign up, and I know a number of folks here might actually use this for evaluation purposes *before* filling it with porn.

In Oregon, all it takes to be legit is a corporate "doing business as" license: Total cost $25 every 5 years.

Realilse that, to be a business, you only need you. If you're a consultant, working under your own name, you may not even need a license.

How would Seagate know, anyway?

Where do I go on their portal page after signing up to order a drive? I think I'm slow this week...

Under Sales Pomotions, choose Current Programs. Towards the bottom is Evaluation Unit Offer.

I have no need for either of these models, so those who buy should report back for the benefit of others....

I am omnipresent
Benefit #1: 500GB of porn.
Benefit #2: Not a Western Digital
Benefit #3: Comes in box which can be used to store punier hard drives.
Benefit #4: Not as loud as a chainsaw
Benefit #5: Box can also store Western Digital Hard drives, and is flammable when doused in lighter fluid.

I must be blind or something. This is what I get if I choose current programs under.

I have searched all over these pages and haven't seen this.

Got any ideas, or maybe I just need to sleep more.

It is supposed to be just below the "Design Service Centers Promotion". I don't know why it isn't in your version of that page. In your company's profile, you probably omitted to tell them that you were interested in personal storage solutions so they don't offer that promotion to you.

I'll order one 500GB later today. Thanks for sharing the info about the promotion with us.

I must have done something wrong when signing up. Though, I believe I selected personal storage solutions as well as about 5 other of the options. Maybe they don't like my name or something.

Sechs, I tried your link but even after signing in it just tells me to sign in again.

Stupid Seagate. I need one of those 500GB drives for my ever expanding MP3/Movie/Porn collection.

Just wanted to let you guys know that even though the Seagate website said they were OOS on the Eval hard drives, mine shipped the day after my order.

That 7200.1 really made a nice noticeable difference on my P3 500/512MB WinXP Pro laptop when upgrading from the 4200RPM 40GB Toshiba I had in it. They are both rated for the same power usage as well (2.6W).

I'm not seeing any eval. drives on their right now either. Hopefully they'll have some more good stuff on there...

I sure wish I could order one of these. I signed up for the SPP, but I see nothing like this on there. Couldn't see the last one either.

Can you change your profile or something so you can see it?

I signed up also and I'm not seeing that deal. I'd buy a couple of them if I could... I don't know where you're seeing this in their website.

I have the distinct feeling that you had to answer their profile questions "correctly" to qualify to see the evaluation page. I suggest that you reapply, answering their questions differently, to artifically boost,Seagates interpretation that you have a need to evaluate units...

I wonder what those correct answers are. I know that some of you folks integrate a lot more drives than I do, and I see them.

Fry's is currently offering the Seagate ST3750640AS-RK 750GB SATA for $159.00 + shipping.

Holy sh%# batman! I believe I'll drive over to a nearby Fry'z in the morning and buy one for $159 (+8.25% local sales tax). There was a veritable mountain of 750 GB Baccarudas in the middle of the floor at the Fry's store I'm talking about back in August.

That price for the 750GB drive was for the www.frys.com. I have no idea if it is applicable to their retail stores. www.frys.com is now listing the offer as "Unavailable" while, if you search their site, they still have 750GB drives still in-stock at $399. So I wouldn't bet the farm that they exist locally. To me it looks like a pricing error that they caught...

I've ordered on a price mistake from Outpost.com before, they usually cancel the order.
