I bought a 2GB USB drive from Microcenter. Plugged it into my computer and it would not detect. WinXP just makes a bong bong bong sound when I plug it into my WinXP box.

Now, my Casio 7MB digital camera is not detected either (it is on another USB port).

My Mouse and Keyboard work OK though and those are USB. Any ideas?

I'm runnning a P965 chipset motherboard.

Thanks,
C

Have you tried a reboot? Without some of the other devices disconnected? Did it show up in "Disk Management" under "Computer Management"? Perhaps you need to format it?

Yeah I rebooted and everything. it turns out I have to use the older version of the USB Mass Storage driver. Version 5.1.2600 works OK. WinXP was trying to use a newer version something like 6.0.6000.16386. Guess I am good to go. Thanks for the quick feedback though! So much for newer drivers being better.

Did you get a pop up message from the task bar? Sometimes I get something like that saying that the USB power port was overloaded, that can shut down other USB things too.
