Storage? I am Storage!
A site has three Win2k workstations and a server.
The server and two of the workstations have printers hanging off them.
The two printers attached to workstations are shared so that all the workstations can access all the printers.
On one of the printer-equipped workstations, when you 'add' the printer attached to the other workstation, everything runs through beautifully except:
No icon is created in the Printers folder.
There's a flicker as if the icons are being arranged, but then it settles and you have no evidence that you did anything at all.
Actually, it's not that simple.
If we log in as the local administrator, the missing printer is sitting there happily - but was probably there already, from when the workstation was originally set up to just use workgroup file sharing.
The failure occurs when we log in as any domain user - even one with explicitly granted local administrator rights.
Looking at the registry, the elusive printer appears to be the default printer - it's just invisible.
As a final complication, the server uses Samba on Linux as a PDC (Primary Domain Controller), and domain users have roaming profiles.
I've tried everything I could think of over the last couple of months, but to no avail.
