I stumbled across this page; scroll down to the middle with the insurance pics. How did the animal cause so much damage to the roof of the vehicle?? When a vehicle hits the animal, shouldn't the front of the vehicle sustain the most damage? It almost looks like the creature fell from an overpass on to the roof/windshield.

Pray explain.

That's a deer, man. They can jump pretty far and pretty high. That truck might've not hit it with its front end at all.

The car is normally much lower than the belly of the animal (for elk or raindeer that we have lots of). So the front of the car just knocks the feet of the animal, and you've got half a ton of animal in your lap after that, literally.

A deer could go over the bonnet and into the windshield, there have been cases of people being killed by a kicking deer in a car. Though with a truck the height of a Durango it would be pretty unusual. But then a friend of mine hit a deer with a Ford Taurus and the thing went right over the car and landed behind, there was only a tiny patch of deer left on the car.

Lesson of this story is watch out for Buck crossing the road :D

Let the "Americanization" of Pradeep begin - Lesson number one: the lid over the engine is a "hood" not a "bonnet". A bonnet is what your daughter and wife wear on their heads at Easter. Hetrosexual men rarely use the word bonnet here in America. :)

Don't you feel better for being right about being confused?
Absolutely! Being right about being confused is better than being wrong about being right, isn't it? :mrgrn:

I can easily understand the struck object/creature going through the windshield; my confusion was related to the damage to the vehicle's roof.

I will resist Americanisation as long as possible. However I have been slipping up recently, calling the boot of a car a "trunk", a nappy a "diaper", LPG "propane", a barbie a "grill", and various other mistakes which would make Australians hang their heads in shame. I guess resistance is futile. However I have located a used vehicle which would make a true American proud, a '77 Ford Econovan with a 460 V8. Apparently does 8-10 MPG. Meaningless figures to me as I deal exclusively in km/l :D Checking it out next week.

Yes but just think... you could fit an entire herd of deer in there. :)

Exactly! Plus it'll be fun to see the environmentalists curling up in a ball and sucking their thumbs like babies as I cruise down the road, huge plumes of oil smoke billowing from beneath :)

Just a winter beater till I can get a credit rating and a new Mitsu Galant or somesuch.
