I had jiggered FF for the max viewable screen: Menu, location bar, navigation icons all in one row at the top. No google search box.

I always used to go to Google's web site and then do my searches from there. Yesterday, I began to use Ctrl-K, which pops up a Google search window. When I booted today and started FF, it had gone back to the default toolbar displays, with the Google searchbox in its place. Ok, so I spend a few minutes fixing it and fire up another window, no joy. I close everything, open one window, fix the toolbars, (my home page is a blank page), then go to file/exit and restart, no joy. The stupid thing keeps going back to default toolbar config no matter how many times I fix it and what I do. I even rebooted after fixing it (and before using the browser), no joy.

Is is possessed? Should I call in an exorcist?

You could try removing your profile from Documents and Settings. Maybe there is a configuration file that is corrupted?

Thanks Tim and Howell.

Nothing I did fixed it; I finally went into my profile like Tim suggested and hosed a few files that had date stamps in the last couple of days. That fixed the problem, but it hosed my settings as well, and I had to do some work to get everything back the way it was last night. So much for using ctrl-k; damn thing takes control of your settings and won't let go.
