Anyone know of a decent free zip password brute utility? Found some of my old files on an old hard drive and I can't remember what I set back then. Tried a couple obvious ones from googling and they didn't work on the test archive that I set up with a known password so I think they were junk.

The only reason that a brute-force attack would fail is if the password contained characters outside of the attack set, or the attack didn't use a long enough password. The latter is a common limitation of such free utilities.

Yeah I have gone through three or four hopefuls and a couple had the option to turn off special characters to make things faster so I see what you are saying.

I am still trying but I found some of what I was looking for on an old WD200 that appears to work fine still.
