OK all, it's about T-7 weeks till the big day when my honey becomes Mrs. Adcadet. I'm actually looking forward to the day, or at least the promise of getting her cooking on a regular basis. Among other things, I'm in charge of securing transportation. The obvious choices are:

- helicopter. Loud, expensive, requires a pilot, and basically is only available to fly us from the church to the reception site. So cruising around afterwards is not possible.

-limo. Perhaps a hair expensive, requires a driver, is waaaay overdone. And boring.

-rental car. Not bad in price, we can use it the day after the whole thing (we get married on Sat, and leave for the honeymoon on Monday). Plus, I get to drive. I've always loved Mustangs, and it would be pretty cool to drive a Mustang Coupe. Obviously this is my top choice at the moment.

-friend drives us around in his/her car. Cheap. Sucky. Don't like it.

Litter?
Rickshaw?
Chariot?
Horseback?
Two-Person Bicycle?
Carriage?
Motorcycle & sidecar?
Razor Scooter?
Rollerskates?
Sailboat? (something of a trick if there's no water between here and there).
Skydiving?

You can get non-traditional Limos, if that's what you're in to. There's a guy in my apartment complex whose livery service consists of an extended HumVee (the thing is, seriously, the size of a semi trailer).

I think I'd just call up a rental car place and see if you can get a Benz or a Caddy or something. You don't have to be ostentacious.

But if you do, I vote for the Litter. That would at least be original. ;)

Litter? As in a litter of kittens? :eekers:

I did see a Humvee (sp?) limo, on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. A complete tribute to American gluttany.

A Caddy or Benz would sound nice. But I like the idea of a sports car. This may very well be the only time in the next 8 years I'll be able to drive a nice car.

Stretch Hummers are not semi trailers .. they're school buses. Imagine it painted yellow and the resemblence is striking.

There's also his 'n' her Segways: http://www.segway.com/

More seriously, you should be concentrating on your bride and not on driving. Leave that to someone else. For the wedding & reception, rent a limo or rent a car & have a friend drive it. Limos really aren't that expensive. As to getting to the airport, have a friend drive you there.

Litter as in "gold-encrusted stretcher carried over the shoulders of a bunch of strapping men". Preferred mode of transport for evil overlords everwhere. ;)

ah, as opposed to blood-encrusted fabric device used to transport sick people around hospitals.

If I had to suggest something, it would be a ride on the TGV, but since that's not local to you maybe Amtrak will be an OK if somewhat half-assed substitute. Mercutio also offered a few interesting if unconventional suggestions. Autos, whether limos, rent-a-cars, whatever, are just too mundane if you really are looking for something different.

Seriously though, does it really matter? If I were really in love with someone enough to want to marry them I couldn't care less even if I walked or took the subway to my wedding. Helicopters, limos, and other things like that are just ostentatious American materialism. In the end, I would skip all that, a big costly reception, and a honeymoon, and just use the money towards the down payment on a house. But that's just me. I've probably seen too many people I know go into hock for a wedding and honeymoon and then get divorced five years later. One guy I know fell for a Russian immigrant who was only interested in getting her citizenship papers. They got divorced three years later. Her plot was so transparent everyone except him knew what she was up to, but he fell for it hook, line, and sinker anyway despite the friendly warnings. At least there were no kids to complicate the picture after the divorce, and he didn't spend much on the wedding(he got married in city hall). Stories like that make me happy I'm still single.

Anyway, congratulations on what is probably one of the biggest events in anybody's life. I wish you luck and a long, happy marriage.

Buck, please tell me that was photoshoped.

Nope. There are companies that rent out exotic limos. Check in your area for someone like that. You can end up with a stretched Porsche.

The problem with driving a rental car is that you would sadly have to remain somewhat sober during a day when you should hardly be able to stand up straight from all the drunken debauchary. Get someone else to drive.

Somewhere in time.
Those exotic limos come with a staff of two: you can't get inside without their help. When you get horizontal, they'll shove you in (unless you're a little person and can walk in without doubling over or leaving your upper body behind).

Adcadet, 'ow 'bout a quaint hoss & buggy? (I'm cheating, Merc already suggested chariot).
