Interesting look at digitally restoring movies

It's great having the capability to preserve such wonderful movies for the future through the computing power of today. Not only were they able to clean all of the frames, but also enhance them for better definition.

I've been interested in buying the trilogy on DVD, but I've heard that some of the scenes have changed from the original movie. Has anyone heard about this, and what sort of changes have been made?

I've got DVDs of the LaserDisc (original) editions, the VHS "Special Editions" and the DVDs.

MOST of the changes are are very minor in the grand scheme of things; the changes in the special editions tend to be more radical. These updated versions ARE still Star Wars. Not quite the movies I remember from childhood, but I can see why 90% of the changes were made as well.

I've enjoyed the original three starwars films many times over the years, but for some reason I'm not that excited to own the trilogy. I'll wait for xmas to see if it goes on sale again, and maybe then I'll reconsider.

Most of them are minor, nit-picky stuff. There are articles elsewhere on the web that list them all.

The biggies for me pretty much involved replacing the "old" emperor with the one from the newer movies, and doing the same thing with Hayden Christenson as Anakin.

Didn't he had a lot of continuity fixes, to better linearise the series?

Why don't they release all versions of the flims and cash in?
