We just had a short power black out. All computers APC's worked as designed, no down time, and no threat to equipment.

I'm just sooo pleased with myself

It's even better when you can plug in your stereo and give your illiterate, savage neighbors a good multi-hour taste of culture to make up for all the Wu-Tung bullshit they've played at 3:00AM.

Klipsch are pretty efficent. My upstairs neighbor used to have a dog that barked every 7 minutes, from sunup, to sundown, since he liked to bark at golf carts, and, that's how often they go by the house.

I loved his dog, but, he just woudn't teach the dog not to bark. As soon as he tried, the dog learned in about a week. REALLY smart dog, less smart owner?

Anyway, he still plays loud music, but usually at reasonable times.

I do remember a couple weekend mornings where he started really early, and he has a SERIOUS system with a 17 inch sub. Not a good sub, but a big sub.

I did take all 5 speakers, 12 inch sub, klipsch book shelf speakers, and Hereseys, and pointed them at the ceiling, and played Jimi Hendrix for about an hour... at about 80% volume, with the 500 Watt Denon amp. Good lord, it is SOOOO clean, and soooo loud...

Sound quality was near Santana's show quality, and, it did give you that vibration all the way through your body, sort of thing you get at concerts.

Lucky we didn't have side neighbors, and, we are on the end unit...

We both have mellowed, and spent lots on high quality head phones, and, save our monster stereos for certain situations and times. He plays his while he's doing his ironing, and I play mine usually when we have a really good, new cd/dvd.

First time I played it loud, with an epic style DVD, my girlfriend was amazed, yelling it sounds better then the movie theatre. Of course, Klipsch ARE the movie speakers in most movie houses.

If I ever have a really nice house, I'd like a set of Klipsch corner horns, maybe 4 in each room...

In my last apartment, I lived on the second floor. One of the tenants of the unit below me was a Hispanic family. Three adults and four children in a small single-bedroom apartment. The first thing they bought for their new place was a Wega TV and surround-sound speaker set. They always played sound at extreme volumes -- including The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Aladdin has a lot more bass in it than you may think.

One day, we got into a volume contest. I had downloaded one of those bass test tracks and turned my subwoofer with the portal to the floor. I was impressed that my Cambridge Soundworks set could vibrate the floor. I let Winamp loop for about ten minutes.

No more sounds came from downstairs. They were evicted about a month later.

4 kids, single family apt, and they need to get a large TV with surround sound? Geez, I can think of a few better things to spend the money on.

15 years ago I was living in a one bedroom apartment in Fremont, CA.

It seemed that every Saturday and Sunday morning the neighbors on the other side of the wall from the room I slept in would play big-band music. Ordinarily, this would only be somewhat annoying, but I worked graveyard shift and would be trying to fall asleep by 08:00am.

After a couple weeks of this crap I got my 10-meter HAM radio, a 12 volt power supply, and a quarter-wave mobile antenna out of storage. I set up the radio and cabled the antenna. The antenna was leaned right up against the dividing wall.

Even though the antenna didn't have any ground plane, the result was still wonderful. When I keyed the microphone, the stereo on the other side of the wall howled and screamed with feedback and the nitwits hastily shut it off. They started playing it again, I keyed the mike again. Finally they left it off and I got some restful sleep.

There are about 50 power outages a year around here (most very brief), so I have the TVs/cable boxes/DVR, etc. on the USPs, not to mention the computer systems. A UPS is so inexpensive that every room should have them. The only annoyance is with all of those beeps going off when the outage is more than a few seconds.

Apparently they were evicted because the third adult wasn't on the lease. If she had been, they would have had a considerably larger rent.
