Mouse Scroll wheel dead after Windows Update

Win Update is set to manual. Last night I did the update and shut the machine down. Today the mouse scroll wheel doesn't do anything. I'm on Win 7. Is it just me?

I swapped the mouse out for a spare and it's scrolling. Doggone co-incidence. These days mice seem to last at most a year.
