Owls, using their powerful talons in a sporting event, proved to be superior to mere Cardinals by winning the baseball College World Series title.

Rice University Owls -- a local (Houston, TX) area university -- whooped up on the Stanford Cardinals in game #3, with a score of 14 to 2, to win it all. Both universities are rather exclusive top-tier academic institutions, which is a bit unusual for finalists in college baseball.
