Samsung SP1604N read error

I have a 160GB Samsung SP1604N set up as a master.
One day i turned my pc on and it gave me a read error and wont boot, so i used another HD a 6GB HD as a master and the 160GB HD as a slave and had to reassign the LBA sectors for it to work.
I can see all my info now but everytime i reboot i have to reassing the lba sectors again.My mainboard is a Compaq 0400h with a p3@500Mhz.
Is it my mainboard or my HD i just f****d up?.

Does it keep the time correctly? I am guessing the BIOS battery is gone.

You can always test the drive with Samsung's Drive Utility as is mentioned in our Toolbox section by Merc.
