It's mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WUUUUHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUu!!!!

:mrgrn:

...

OK, I've calmed down a bit now.

What should I put there? Any good suggestions? (My first thought was: well, if I can't think of anything, I'll just fill it with p0rn and start charging  ).

Believe it or not (after this you'll all think I'm a real n00b....), I've never done a website.
Perhaps I should start learning how right about now :)

yes. lots of tutorials on the left ranging from very basic (know how to use a computer but never seen HTML or any other pseudo language) to moderate (css and java script) to advanced (basic stuff with ASP and VBscript)

Congrats! What kind of interests do you like to share? If you have a digital camera or a scanner, that will help with content.

I'd recommend starting off small to understand the quarks with HTML and then get into adding CSS into your design. Make sure to install a few different browser onto your PC so that you can see the differences between them during your design.

Thanks!

I also just need the time to start going over those links now. With the great wearther here now, I'll probably go to the beach for the whole evening and do some reading and snorkeling. Although you can't see jack s... in our waters...:(
Good practise anyway for diving. Took a 25 minute excercise yesterday with fins, just to strenghten my ancles again. Running and bicycle riding doesn't do the same as swimming with fins.

Ahh, whatta heck, I've got the whole night! And as the sun doesn't set here for another few weeks, it's nice and bright. :)

It would actually be much worse if you DID see Jack Sh#* in the waters while snorkeling.

It seems there's a lot of Sh#* hitting the fan in the SF Pub & Brewery this week!

Speaking of the murky Bothnian and Baltic waters, I bet Th'JoJo can remember back in the '90s and '80s when a Russian spy submarine or 2 (or 3 or 4) embarrassingly revealed themselves trespassing in Swedish territorial waters after running themselves up on sandbars.

Yup, if I remember correctly it was the so called Whisky class, so it was "Whisky on the rocks" time . :mrgrn:

How many of you think that learning HTML is worth it, compared to just using Dreamweaver etc...? As I won't be doing many sites anyway, do you think it's worth the time to get to know HTML?

I could imagine doing something quite easily with Dreamweaver (which does generate very good HTML, or so I've heard), but I think one would really need to be doing a lot of sites/high-end sites to need to further edit the HTML?

What do you think?

If you're just putting a personal page together Dreamweaver or frontpage (or another good GUI)is probably easiest (I wouldnt have said this a few yers ago). These products have really improved.

The main reason to edit HTML by hand is that 1) you know it's done right and it will be fast and compatible 2) you can edit(update) things easily and if there is a problem you know exactly where it is because you understand the code.

Personally, I never use the WYSIWYG part of frontpage, just look at the source and then preview it.. but lately I haven't even been using front page, in favor of editPlus. Either tool works equally well for me because all I really want is syntax highlighting for readability and to make sure I didn't leave out a quotation mark or something similar.

This all assumes you just want a webpage to have a webpage and the direct implications thereof and not because you are interested in learning.

I've never been much into graphics and web pages. Just not so interested. I'm more interested in server-side stuff, and servers and hardware. For my very modest use, I then think that Dreamweaver would suffice.

As I'm an engineer, the looks of things don't matter that much to me  . I'm more interested in efficiency, big computers and clusters etc...

You can always find a website that you like and copy some of their code, I think that is what Buck does. You can check his site out here.

I tried to buy the domain from him, but I think he wanted $25,000 for the name. No thanks.

Seems like his perception of value is a bit out of adjustment in both cases.
