Video Driver Kills PowerPoint !!

Can you belive the incompitence of ATI programers !!

On three machines , W2k and two XP , using 700 and 7200 GPUs and the latest Catalyst drivers, certain large powerpoint files lock up the computer when trying to open them.

Never have I seen such programing junk since the early ROXIO W2k days.


ATI you really suck...

ATI in "modern" times have not been known for writing excellent video card drivers. The best they have now are for the old XL graphics processors (AGP 1x) that many server mobo manufacturers use for their onboard video adaptors, such as mobos based on the various ServerWorks chipsets.

Native W2k and XP drivers work fine...

Any one else with this issue ?

The "straight off the original CDROM" drivers go through a MS WHQL check and probably have all the performance optimisations (tweakings) removed or maybe a feature or two. I believe I've heard that there are even some of these first edition drivers where the driver forces the video card to operate at AGP 1x bus clock.
