Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

The situation is quite different today. I replaced all bulbs with LED bulbs. Unfortunately, the LED bulbs with 60 or 120 LEDs inside are powered by internal circuitry, and if an IC in there fails, it takes out a whole row of LED lights inside. Replacing a $30 or $60 bulb here and there is not...

What's the best wireless router these days?

No D-Link D-Link suck. They all died within warranty period. 2nd product just died today after 2.5 weeks. I'm going with Actiontec now for modem and Linksys for wireless routers. Never had a Linksys dead whether it was modem, router, or wireless.

Blu Ray on the computer: Anybody done it yet?

It is funny how $350 got a P3 back in the day. No piece cost me more than like $130 assembling the new blu-ray compliant computer. I suppose that is the genius of 9600GT and Wolfdale E7200. So much performance for so little.

Blu Ray on the computer: Anybody done it yet?

Yes blu-ray was what forced me to leave P4 / AGP / 875. And that was a Shuttle box so I was very upset to have to trash everything. It's weird that the P4 system lasted so long, 5 years. Dual-view is an issue if not all devices are HDCP. So it would be necessary to use software such as Anydvd...

    Piracy

Thailand, so-so. Vendor grabs you on the arm and pulls you into their clothing store. Then a hidden back room opens up to a piracy background operation. China, I am wondering how and where they do it all. Maybe through organized crime? Hong Kong had real tight enforcement of piracy. I didn't...

    Piracy

Downloading is a pretty inefficient method for piracy. In Malaysia, all one has to do is take a bus to the mall, and just buy all the full season tv shows or software they want on disc faster than it'd take to search and download. I can't imagine that in a US environment. It would be like a...

    Bible Thread

I don't think you would be able to substantiate that unless your definition of education is extremely narrow. One can be educated in, for instance, physical sciences, political philosophy, theism, and even religious studies. How does learning and becoming educated in the world's religions have...

    Bible Thread

I disagree that selflessness and teamwork are instinctive to human beings. From birth a human is a very selfish creature, impulsive, full of rage, "I want I want I want" and understands nothing of importance greater than Self. Make a baby wait 5 minutes or take away its toy and see what happens...

    Sat-phone for rental?

I've used Iridium--reliable for single users. But the antenna doesn't stand up to multi-person usage--it tends to get rotated out of its cup by various users and I keep having to rotate and snap it back in. Not that rugged. If you dropped it in the extended position that plastic antenna would be...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

2000 to 2006 in review. The biggest surprise I've had in computer gaming hardware, is the longevity of the platform and the CPU. In 6 years of playing the most demanding PC games as they come to market, I've only had to update the motherboard twice. #1 2000 - 2003: 440BX motherboard, 500 and...

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

Looks like I need to reduce perspective distortion for vehicle photography then. I guess that means I can either: 1. zoom in the lens and shoot from further away 2. reduce to 3/2 or 4/3 field of view

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

Do you use a lens correction software for the 16:9 angle shots? I never noticed how bad the distortion was until I took a picture of something I am used to seeing--my vehicle. It was grossly distorted, exaggerating one end and shrinking the other end. I got the new version of PTLens plugin for...

64 GB USB Thumb Drive (For The Filthy Rich)

There are 32 GB SSD available in SATA for $1800. Would seem to be a perfect replacement for a 1st gen Raptor, which I use as the OS disk.

64 GB USB Thumb Drive (For The Filthy Rich)

You should see the 32 GB SSD review on Tom's Hardware. It has read times that are flat across the entire capacity. Not only that, but reduced power consumption, weight, and more importantly, no audible noise. The problem with that unit is the performance is capped at an ATA66 interface. I've...
