Problem with Router and Desktop's NIC

The modem is already mine ... I think I originally purchased one from the ISP (it was a good price) about seven or eight years ago. Then the network had a speed/DOCSIS upgrade and the modem needed swapping to a newer model, which the ISP provided for free to me. They're actually a good...

Problem with Router and Desktop's NIC

I thought about that, and there is actually an entry on the modem's diagnostic page that mentions something about number of computer connections allowed being two. But I don't think that is the case -- the desktop is the original device that the modem would have been accessed with ... unless...

Problem with Router and Desktop's NIC

Its worth a shot ... maybe there is even a freezer trick for modems and routers like there is for hard drives LOL.

Anybody planning a trip for this event?

Yellowstone was very enjoyable. Yes, very large park, so impossible to see everything ... you'd likely want to explore various sections over a number of trips (four or five?) and then choose which you'd like the best and then focus on those areas in future. Yeah, very crowded in many areas...

Anybody planning a trip for this event?

Late to the thread but: I watched it, with a few other people, in the path of totality from the junction point of a dirt road and a tertiary highway in what can only be described as Itchycroth Idaho ... it was apparent that some of the locals were not taking to kindly to all us foreigner folk...

Problem with Router and Desktop's NIC

I'll add that I don't know what the pin assignments are on the cabling ... is there a lone wire in the pairs that carries "internet" signal? Again, in all other regards that I can see, the cabling and devices are working fine .... its just the blasted outside world signal for the interent.

Problem with Router and Desktop's NIC

Before I went on vacation, I unplugged all non essential electricals, including computer stuff ...however, I forgot to disconnect the actual cable line from the modem. The connection topology is as follows: big bad internet --> cable modem --> router ---> wired connection to desktop and...

    Goodbye Firefox

I'm not the only one bringing this to attention either. Example: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2856797 I still haven't figured out how to fix it. I seriously don't want to spend the time on this crap.

    Goodbye Firefox

That's not the problem ... bookmarks are still there (I now have to access them via "Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks" and when the "Library" opens, I need to click on "Bookmarks Toolbar" ... that is very inconvenient) The problem is in the browser's GUI. I have a menu bar (which also contains a...

    BT Headphones

I've had these for a while now and can provide a qualified opinion of them: battery life is crap ... but that was expected ... I get maybe 4 hours of music time battery recharge time is good ... haven't timed it, but I'd say it only takes about an hour and a bit before they indicate they're...

    Goodbye Firefox

That sums it up right there -- its increasingly taking quite a bit of effort to maintain it in a way that is familiar and desirable.

    Goodbye Firefox

Me too. I do not want to spend large amounts of time every few releases trying to restore functionality that previously existed. Installing FF31 yesterday has completely removed my folders and bookmarks from whatever bar its called. Empty. Blank. Nada. Fucking idiots. Nothing is...

    dSLR thread

Yi carumba! OUCH! Okay, well that's good ... though, if they had also started treating you for kenel cough, I'd be a little bit concerned about the prognosis

    Crap selection of laptops

I suspect this is indeed the case -- that outside the US, its not necessarily pleasant and/or easy experience. I got dragged into helping someone out with a Lenovo claim (which more or less had transformed itself into a difference of opinion between what the Lenovo reps thought they (Lenovo as...
