    Free Fax Software?

But you can't use a modem without a device driver. Look on the CD with the device driver: you will find your free fax software right there. Mostly, it's clunky but perfectly usable.

Bets Way to Mirror a Drive ?

It's getting harder and harder, EDT, every time Micro$oft inflict another "upgrade" on us. You can't do it at all now without using designed-for-the-purpose software. Ghost works, but Ghost sucks. Big-time. Horrible program. But what else is there?

    DVD Burner Recommendations?

Tannin and I installed a Lite-On here on the home machine about four months ago. It was just before dual layer burners became readily available and reasonably priced - maybe more like six months. Thus far, it has performed flawlessly as a CD reader and ... er ... hasn't been asked to do any...

    New or Refurbished Drive?

Seems to depend largely on the scumworthiness of the manufacturer, Lunar. Seagate and Western Digital practically always give you refurbs, which typically last for quite a while before they fail again (sometimes as long as three weeks or, if you are extra lucky, even a whole month). Samsung, in...

    New or Refurbished Drive?

IBM always used to label their refurbs with a "servicable used product" sticker. I doubt that Hitachi would do it any differently. You should be fine with that drive, Clocker .... er .... sorry, I mean LunarMist.

Thanks RW. Here a a few samples of the wonderful creatures we found. WA has fantastic light! Only the centre has better light than outback WA. And WA has some amazing creatures. Not just birds. The insects are fantastic, the flora unbelivable, the geology full of interest, and this little...

    A Christmas wish.....

Grow genitals? I've never tried doing that. I've grown petunias and violets though. And some geraniums too. Do genitals like lots of water and being fertilised regularly, or are they better in a shady place, like the back corner of the block under the lemon tree? PS: I hope genitals like this...

Am I the First to Have It ?

It's rather sad. Reading the title of this thread, I'm afraid that it simply didn't occur to me to think that it might be about anything else but the obvious topic that common sense would immediately assign to a thread with such a title. No thought required: "Am I the first to have it?", I...

Earth quakes & tidal waves kill thousands in SE Asia

You've got the figures backwards, Handruin. The Red Cross guarantees less than 10% overhead (i.e., 90% plus effective) but actually works on around 2% overhead. That's the Oz figures, but they should be similar in your neck of the woods. If you give $100, $98 will do good work.

MAG 972PF-s 19" CRT any good?

Mate, you're running a 15 inch screen you found in the street. Any 19 inch screen is going to be about 197,675,231.04 miles better than what you have now. Even if it won't switch on it's going to be better than the clunker you use now. Go for it!

Tannin and I won't be around much, if at all, for the next 3 or 4 weeks, because we are heading off to points unknown with camera in hand. Yippee! We are taking a laptop, which has a modem, but probably won't be anywhere we can log in from very often. Be good! Tea, those words sound...

    Paypal experience and tips?

It may be different in the US, but Oz banks are only too happy to arrange a credit card facility. Banks never pass by a chance to make money. Housecall in Firefox

Look, it's very simple. There are two ways you can design a browser: (a) Allow the remote system unfettered access to the local system, so that it can, essentially, do as it likes. (b) Deny the remote system access to the local system, so that, essentially, it doesn't matter what the remote...

Good for you, Dave! Take it from my friend and mentor Mr Tannin, there are much more important things in life than whether you earn a bit more or a bit less, take a step up on the corporate ladder or a step sideways. There are much better places to live than big cities. Now, a little bit of...
