    SACD "ripping" over HDMI?

The splitter I bought takes care of the protected stream aspect just fine. I think it's a problem with their sample application. They did provide the source code for it (totally uncommented), but I don't really want to get into it that far. I'm not a developer and my experience is dabbling in...

    SACD "ripping" over HDMI?

Maybe I should have listened to you... The Magewell card only enumerates itself as a Stereo recording device to Windows (at least per Audacity and the Windows Sound section). The application included with their SDK see's 5.1 LPCM audio from SACD from my Oppo (5.1/88.2kHz output), but has some...

It looks lime my cable company changed my internet plan. It looks like I have 50/5 now up from the 22/2 I had before. I think I will be downgrading to their new standard 25/3 tier to save the $20 a month.

    SACD "ripping" over HDMI?

The Magewell card is supposed to arrive today. It should be interesting to play around with. If it works for SACD capture, I can use SoX to throw away all the extraneous bits and sampling rate that's utterly wasted. I'm thinking 44.1kHz / 18-bit, maybe 20-bit in a 24-bit container should do...

    Mini Wireless keyboard

So all three of the mini wireless keyboard have their pros and cons. The iPazzPort seems to have the best RF reception of the three. I didn't encounter any missed key presses or goofiness. However it has the worst placement of the mouse buttons. They're right by the touchpad so you can't...

question Where'd the X79 motherboards go?

So the S2600CP2J system stayed on and running overnight. My "benchmark" finished running on the one CPU. It's 35.32% faster than my i7-4770k @ 4.2gHz. I'm running a few other permutations of the test now.

question Where'd the X79 motherboards go?

I found my Intel S2600CP2J system in some goofy state tonight sitting at the BMC screen before the BIOS. I had left it running an encoding "benchmark" of sorts. My guess is that it attempted to sleep, but I'm not entirely sure. The logs don't have anything useful other than that the previous...

question Where'd the X79 motherboards go?

After finishing on this particular video The E5-2689 was 36.95% faster than my i7-4770k @ 4.2gHz. On the other system (dual v1 E5-2670) I had no issues getting x264 to use all of both CPUs on a single encode. It spawns more threads than is advisable per the x264 devs for a 1080p videos, but...

question Where'd the X79 motherboards go?

I finally got around to testing x264 on both of my v1 e5 Xeon boxes today. I discovered that the Nvidia HW decoding can be invoked via RDP under Windows 10. I don't know if it's newer drivers, or something done in Windows versions after 7... But, it makes things a lot easier for me. So far...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

I really like my neutral Eagletac GX30A3D. I took it to Asia with me in January. I didn't really need it or use it, but I had it just in case. It also allowed me to get acquainted with the luggage x-ray person at the airport when I was leaving too.

Most devices that pull an IP from your DHCP server connect themselves to the internet. Maybe to check for updates, maybe to use NTP, etc... The NAS is probably set up so you can share content over the internet.

ECC RAM (v. how do I know it's working?)

I tried this today on my Supermicro X9SRA with my v1 E5 Xeon running Windows 10 Pro and got 6. I was expecting 5. Windows 10 Pro on the v3 E3 Xeon system in the ASRock Rack board returns a 5, like it did under Windows 7 Pro.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

It sounds like they've decided to make the 18650 a sealed "pack" with a micro USB port for charging it instead of making it an 18650 holder with charging circuit. As a result you can't swap the 18650 cell. It probably a good decision for people who aren't familiar with 18650 cells, the...

So I am a bit surprised... They did answer the questions, and I'm glad I got out. 64Hz PWM? Really?!?!? The user can't swap Li-Ion cells in the holder. They're only using a 2.4Ah battery which mean's it's probably not really Li-Ion, but one of the safer Lithium chemistries (or they got...

It could be that between the three pieces can't all agree on a common mode that they all support. It's hard to saw exactly. It would take a fair amount of debugging to know for sure. Have you tried entering the BIOS to give everything time to sync? Which VGA to HDMI converter did you get...

Well, a few people have reviewed the prototype on YouTube, so either the prototype is not really representative of the finished product and the design is still up in the air, or they intentionally don't want to get specific. I suspect the latter.

    Mini Wireless keyboard

The K830 came today. It's pretty nice. The reception is better than with either of the Lenovo units. The backlight is nice. SACD "ripping" over HDMI?

But where's the fun in that? Plus being able to cap 1080p via HDMI might be a handy capability to have on reserve. Besides, it shouldn't really be voodoo, just a matter of the card supporting high sample rate LPCM. Edit: I sent Magewell an e-mail to clarify the HDMI audio capabilities...

    SACD "ripping" over HDMI?

    SACD "ripping" over HDMI?

Has anyone tried ripping SACDs using a PC based HDMI capture device and a HDMI "splitter"? My Oppo DVD player and Sony Blu-ray player can both output SACD over HDMI. I'm not sure if the Oppo can do DSD or just PCM output, but I believe the Sony does both. I realize it's not very elegant...

I wasn't aware that WPA2 was hackable if you use a long key, aside from a brute force attack which will take forever. I thought it basically didn't have any known weaknesses and was still considered secure.

I don't remember which brand, but one of the major router brands still had WPS enabled even when you set it to disabled in the menu. I'm not entirely sure how you can make sure it's really disabled. I guess try to use the WPS functionality. Otherwise, start rotating your WPA2 keys regularly...

No idea... The whole thing is an excessive amount of hand waving. You can't just take the energy from a star. The energy is a side effect of the fusion reaction going on in the core. If you were to siphon the "energy" you'd also have to take the mass and plasma which would greatly increase...
