    Digital / e-Signature

I have my e-sig. The certificate is on a protected / special type of USB flash pen drive. The good news: While the e-sig can be used for a variety of purposes, at present my only need is to comply with Ministry of Company Affairs requirements. All hail the Gods, the MCA website supports the...

A big fat Havana cigar for Merc! Thanks buddy, problem fixed! I first tried (before Merc posted) to boot from the W10 DVD, but oddly, it would not boot, and kept booting from W7 on the SSD. Then I tried EasyBCD, but couldn't make sense of it. Also the website only kept talking about XP, Vista...

    Windows 10

I had W7 & W10 dual booting peacefully. Yesterday, I had to restore the W7 image that was made shortly before installing W10. As I expected, now there's no dual-boot menu, system boots straight into W7 :( I set the W10 partition active and tried to boot from it, fails with NTLDR not found. Any...

    Booting from GPT disk

Well, my motherboard does have UEFI, and there was a 128 MB reserved partition at the beginning of the disk (I think this was to make the partitions "aligned" - done by either W7 or Minitool Partition Wizard, can't remember) followed by 200 GB of free space. At this time it will have to remain...

    Booting from GPT disk

Thanks Handy. In the past I have booted multiple OSes from different drives; it's not so difficult. It's GPT that's the spanner in the works here. And if a partition is already created at the beginning of a drive for the OS to live in, having data in other partitions on the same drive is...

    Windows 10

Why are screen icons so blown up in W10? They're compact, small and neat in W7, just the opposite in W10. Are W7 icons not compatible natively with W10? The visuals in W10 suck. W7 is so compact, tight, neat, W10 is majorly disappointing on the UI. I guess a lot of tweaking will have to be done.

DIY Tesla power wall - how feasible is this?

Man, those inverter batteries weigh a ton. IIRC, ~ 65-70 pounds each. The ones I had previously (before I moved to my current location a few years ago) came with think rope handles to carry / transport them. Two grown men strained to lift one battery, and I had two!

    Digital / e-Signature

Handy, what Howell said. The Ministry of Company Affairs will accept a Digital Signature only when the corresponding certificate is issued by a list curated by it. It's not frightfully expensive, but - a) the obsolete hw/sw they list on the website and b) the cumbersome process of providing...

    Booting from GPT disk

Dave, I've had OS and data on the same drives since forever. But, all non-OS stuff has lived in separate partitions, plus all data is backed up almost real-time to a second drive with no OS, so it's never been a problem. I could shrink the current W7 partition on the SSD and make another for...

My goal is to install W10 in a dual-boot config with my existing W7, migrate all apps to W10 over a period of time, have it stable, then discontinue W7. My motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-V with UEFI Bios. I'm on the last released version of the BIOS (2013-09). Many full moons ago I moved my W7...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

Thanks jtr. LED bulbs (at least here) are 2x - 3.5x the cost of CFLs, and the only reasons to get them is the lower power consumption and longer life. But if they fail partially or completely much sooner then expected, they're not worthwhile.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

If it's under voltage, why do some flicker and not others? Because these flickering ones are more sensitive? Over here, Osram has a phenomenal reputation in CFLs and all mine are Osram and nary a problem. But for LEDs, they are rated very poorly, for early death, dimming, and flickering. None...
