    Phone-PDA opinions

Merc, the Nokia E6x smartphones have about 8 hours talktime and a really long standby time (~ 10 days). Sol, I may just decide, after checking all my options out, that all I'm going to do is buy a couple of new PDAs and keep my existing phone as is, because what you said about not wanting the...

Quiet tower case for 8+ HDDs?

If you're going to have that many drives, noise is going to be a problem anyway. You can Dynamat the Lian-Li; I have extensively in my Antec 1030 and the case itself neither produces sound nor amplifies it. All the noise is from drives and fans, and you can control both by choosing the parts...

Thanks for the replies (you too, Merc, for that insight!). Wasn't ignoring you all, was out of town for a few days. I did manage to palm (no pun intended) and finger an E61 in a store, and was vewy, vewy disappointed. Keys were to tiny for me paws. More on this later. Me bro is a die hard Palm...

YOUR FAVORITE VERSION OF MSFT OFFICE?

Later versions of MSO 2000 had activation, and everything since. MSO 2007 has a new UI that involves a steep learning curve. MSO XP is the Windows ME of MSO. You already have MSO 2000. Having used MSO since MSO 95 thru 2003, I like 2003 best; very smooth, all the minor UI kinks worked out...

I'm mulling buying a cell-phone / PDA combo. What's not important: - data access / email / internet etc. - music, videos, etc. What would be nice: - to be able to read/modify/create Word/Excel docs - camera What's important: - phone performance and usability - PDA functions: contacts...

    Bad Windows updates

Thanks all. Darn, I didn't even realize that check box was there in the add/remove programs window! Thanks DD. And Buck and Clocker too. When I attempted to remove KB929338, it warned me that a whole bunch of programs would not work correctly, so I chickened out and cancelled the uninstall...

    Bad Windows updates

Buck, In C:\Windows, there are logs for each update; I presume you meant for me to look at these? Logs for both updates are identical. There is a repeating pattern, and at one point there are ~ 22 consecurive lines that say: KB929338 Setup encountered an error: The update.ver file is not...

I think not. Is there a way to check? But there was something I downloaded a while back that said it was available only for genuine users, and I downloaded and executed that Genuine Check program, which I believe is different from the one you referred to. Did the Genuine Advantage get installed...

    Photo Scanning Help

Time for more scanning; more oldie-goldie pics of family were unearthed (no negatives again)! I'm curious, at what dpi were BW photos printed in the photo lab in the '60s and '70s? Color pics? And what rez / color depth are color pics printed today (from negatives)?

    Bad Windows updates

I have my Win XP Pro install set to tell me when there are updates. I then allow it to download them after reviewing the updates. Greg, sorry, my bad. I just don't see Photoshop being a fit in this case. And I got a bit confused; I presume by Adobe you actually meant Acrobat (since Photoshop is from Adobe as well). Howell, no Kinko's. Even FedEx hardly does any business here (India). Volume is low, but important enough...

DD, you're right. Prob is, as one gets older, memories fade. My memory's always been weird. Nah, my very first DSL connection, circa 1999, from the erstwhile Pacific Bell was a router/switch with 4 ethernet ports. I still have it in a box somewhere. When I moved, and signed up for the same service again, they gave me another one that was similar. What I can't remember is if the WAN...
