    Dell 2405FPW

Well I finally hooked it up to my Athlon, and to my delight my elderly ATI AIW 7500 had no trouble driving it via DVI at 1920*1200. tho strangely it doesn't display any BIOS boot up screens or Win multi-boot menu. I have to select blind. Howeve once Windows boots up she's hunky-dory.

    Dell 2405FPW

Got the 24" (actually they were pretty quick, they shipped last Wednesday and it was delivered Thursday. First impressions: very nice. No dead pixels (or I would be sending this back too). Definitely not too large. In fact it kind of shrinks after a while. Currently running on VGA as the DVI on...

    Dell 2405FPW

The saddest thing was talking to customer service. Your problem sir? I have received a 20" 2005FPW, instead of the 24" 2405FPW I paid for. How do you know this? Umm, the box says 2005FPW, and it is clearly too small to contain a 24" monitor. Up to this point, the box was unopened. Please...

Looking for Dual Bay External Enclosure

True, but RAID-0 would be wasted with the bandwidth of USB 2 or FW 400. Thanks for the link Platform, that is cheap for a FW800 enclosure (especially a two drive with integrated RAID 0).

    Sub-compact laptop recommendations

In the US you have 21 days to return something to Dell if you aren't happy with it for a refund, for any reason at all. You just pay the shipping. They call it the "total satisfaction warranty". Unfortunately they don't have that in Aus, I would be hesitant too in that case.

We have an Inspiron 600m, heavier than an ultra-portable, but gives you a 14" screen at XGA or SXGA+ (1400*1050) which is what we have. Works well, nice sharp screen, and a blessed serial port. Getting up there at 5lbs. The Latitude D610 would be the closest Latitude equivalent. The Latitude...

We got a T42 with 1024*768 screen the other day at work, it seemed rather heavy for it's thickness. I read them when Buck orginally posted them. I quickly perused them again just now. I can see a possible connection to the military in the Middle East. I could see a possible link to starvation in Africa (we could send the lower-than-production cost corn over there). But nothing to genocide...

Gaming system: does hte CPU matter anymore?

AGP 8x has more bandwidth than the PCI-X slot. I don't believe there are any PCI based ATI X800 cards, only AGP or PCI-E. PCI-Express has more bandwidth than the AGP slot, another benefit is that you can run in SLI mode with two graphics cards in two PCI-Express slots.
  41. Pradeep

Gaming system: does hte CPU matter anymore?

Sounds like you are confusing PCI-X (which has been around for quite a few years), with PCI-E (PCI-Express). AGP 8x is plenty sufficient for todays cards I believe.

    TV computer????

There are a couple of ways you can hook up an HDTV to your computer. Some of the ATI cards ship with a component dongle, you can use component cables in that case. You can get a PCI HD tuner card (such as the MyHD-120). This will tune OTA channels (there is a 130 now that can also tune...
