Quick question: easiest imaging software for instanty backup

The new version of DriveImage (2003?) apparently can image the Windows partition from within Windows while Windows is running. There's an easily found thread on SR about it. But genereal impression is that people don't like it compared to DI 2002, and that it is very slow.

    XP SP2 in 2004

I take it you use W2k, Pradeep, or is it W-2003? What OS runs on your "hawk-eye" monitor? Do you use Clear-Type? How good is the Hawk-eye LCD without Clear-Type? Aah, questions, questions! TIA

Chevy Cavalier 2004 (or 2003) : good car?

Reminds me of the good old (yes, I'm that old) days of AC vs DC. Edison promoted DC and had cables (that transmitted DC) buried at a shallow depth in the sides of the streets. Many a horse got electrocuted when it rained. Would this be a problem these days as well, jtr?

Corvair, There's no doubt at all that I defer to your deeper knowledge and experience. I know a little bit here and there, just enough to be dangerous without being useful. Having said that, my earlier post was in no way intended to be critical of your posts. I was just sharing my subjective...

    How do people meet people?

Growth is not possible without change. Change is often times painful. So is growth (that's why they call it "growing pains"). An absence of change (flow) leads to stagnation (cesspool). No pain, no gain. All very worn, corny stuff, but true nevertheless. Sometimes we take life and ourselves...

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

Anytime the issue of a dual-proc system comes up, there seems to be much gnashing of teeth. Even if every program one runs is SMP-unaware, is there not a benefit to having a second CPU? A CPU eating program like Santilli's possessed Photoshop can hog one processor, and the OS and all other...

    Advice on wireless broadband router

Thank you for the kind words, folks, and for the advice. I typed in a pretty longish reply this morning, and when I submitted, I got an error and my post was swallowed by the BBS black hole :( Handruin, thanks for the link to the wall-mount bracket. The web page for it says it's a pack of 10...

    Advice on wireless broadband router

The Amazon deal was too good to pass up, so I ordered the Linksys WRT54G. I guess it would make sense to get the matching Linksys PC cards, "WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook Adapter"; according to their web site, this router and card now support WPA. More for the kids' sake than mine, I hope the...

    Advice on wireless broadband router

Thanks a million, Merc. Amazon has the Linksys WRT54G (interoperable with B) for $57 after rebate; should I jump for it? IIRC, WEP is the newer, better security protocol, right, with WPA being the wimpy one? Yes, all notebooks are running Win XP. So you think keeping the wireless router at...

Hi there, I’ve been nominated to help three college kids share internet access in the home they’re renting. It will most probably be DSL (384-1500k / 128k); the fallback is cable internet. Still trying to figure out if DSL is actually available. All three girls use notebooks running Win XP...

    Moving (Sucks)

Congrats, Merc! One thing to watch out for: property taxes. Usually you'll get a bill every 6 months, and if you haven't planned for it, it can be a nasty surprise. Some lenders (depending on how much one had to stretch to buy the home) will make you pay the monthly pro-rated tax along with...

    Which IDE controller card?

I have a Promise Ultra 100. The last two versions of their drivers suck - slurring when playing audio. Each channel has a single drive on it, a WD 1200JB and a WD 800JB. Even playing a small MP3 will slur. In WMP and in the ATI file player. Granted, W2k SP3 (which is what I run) and WXP SP1...

    Memory Upgrade : 256 MB Dimms on a P2L97

I guess it depends on the chipset revisions, or when the board was made? I also have an Abit BH6, purchased soon after it was released, and it has only 3 DIMM slots, supports only 384MB. IIRC, it does support 256<B DIMMs.
