    Correct Termination?

For various reasons (including that I have too much crap in my case) I'm using a 50-pin to 68-pin adapter to connect my DVD-ROM to a run-of-the-mill rounded Ultra160 cable. The problem is that, no matter how I terminate the SE bus, my Adaptec 29160 complains that it's not terminated correctly...

ECS K7S5A Pro uses double-sided tape on NB heatsink

I am personally disappointed at heatsinks and fans added for looks more than functionality. My Soyo board has a heatsink and fan on the northbridge, but certainly does not need the fan (I have it unplugged from the motherboard to reduce noise) and may not even need the heatsink. I know a...

I've been a pretty die-hard Win2k advocate, but after having to deal with it at work, I think that I can tame it. After SP2 comes out, I'll install it experimentally and see if I can strip out enough crap for it to be acceptable. Now if I could have gotten OS/2 to run my games on my hardware....

[news] Student finds largest known prime number

blakerwry, that's just a really crappy way to test if all numbers are prime. There are a couple P-time algorithms to test for primality; although I'd expect them to use Marsene numbers and the Lucas-Lehmer test.

[news] Student finds largest known prime number

There's a very straightforward algorithm for finding one prime number when you know another. It's simply time consuming to run it on a computer when the numbers are so large.

The OS uses the FS to do that. The file system should keep some information about where files are and aren't. The OS can use that information to tell the disk to what sectors to write.

HID lamps are great for drivers, unless you don't have them. Part of the problem is that street lighting is usually high-pressure sodium, which is a pleasant orange colour. Your eyes become accustomed to that colour, and then two bright white monsters come along, and everything is messed up...

    6500K (Daylight) CFLs......

I strongly dislike HID car amps for two reasons: 1. They are high intensity (i.e. too bright), blinding other drivers on the road. 2. They tend to be too white, making it difficult for other drivers to maintain their night vision.

    Sony Support at its finest

Not enough, in my opinion. Upper management sees support as a cost center rather than a way to encourage future sales. So they attempt to minimize the amount of money put into it. As we all know, you get out what you put in. For my stint, I was lucky to have a number of guys of above average...
