    Window based air conditioners

Consumer Reports has a very, very long history of doing very poor reviews. They pride themselves on their "objective" review methodology, even when their reviews do not include any meaningful basis for comparison or are based on faulty premises. I think, sir, that you might want to investigate...

The women in my office have once again added me to their "Pictures of Hot Dudes" mailing list. I know they E-mail each other pictures of chippendale dancers or whatever and frankly I don't care as long as I don't have to see them, but on Friday my E-mail address got added to the list somehow...

    Commutes

I've had three-hour one way commutes to work at times. Holidays and other traffic-heavy days combined with those sorts of long commutes can easily stretch a 90 minute drive into a 10-hour nightmare. One of the reasons I very much like my low-paying trainer job is that I don't have to deal with...

    Better SATA opticals?

I am four for four on LiteOn SATA optical drives. As in, I have four that need to be RMA'd. They were ordered at different times, so it's not like I got one bad batch of drives, but I haven't had one live longer than six weeks. Not only that, but the damned things are LOUD. Anyone had better...

A lot of screens seem to use a 16:10 resolution and use an internal chip to scale it. Looks crappy. I understand there are also rules about how an image can be scaled over HDMI and I'm not sure those same rules apply to the analog connection.

Asus strikes again, and what to do about it?

That's 'cause Windows is stupid. You can pretty much replace a motherboard with a Via northbridge with any other board with a Via Northbridge. You can also do Intel to Intel or SiS to Intel or Intel to SiS and have zero problems. nVidia stuff is obnoxiously inconsistent. So is ATI. And you...

Hard Drive Enclosures: well built and reasonably priced?

Haven't had it long, have you? ddrueding sent me some all-aluminum SATA to USB enclosures with 750GB drives in them. I let one drive run inside that enclosure for about two and a half days and it died. When I took the drive out, I had to handle it with an oven mitt.

Hard Drive Enclosures: well built and reasonably priced?

Seriously, I've never had a drive enclosure do anything but piss me off. Either there's a fan that breaks after roughly 42 seconds of operation, or the drive gets too hot and dies on its own.
