    Shredders

In the Fellowes instance, Buck, the switch is a 3-way switch - center position is off, depress one way is forward (shred) and depress the other way is reverse, which spits out the accumulated crud between the teeth and if there is a paper jam, clears it. The reverse part of the switch is broken.

    Shredders

While the machines are rugged enough, the switches seem more prone to break. Back in the days when shredders were horribly expensive (~1997), I bought a small one that worked fine, but the switch went kaput after about 14 months of sporadic use. I bought a larger Fellowes cross-cut sometime in...

Why capital punishments is required for cop killers

It's not just IT work. EKGs are sent there for diagnosis. Financial analysts there do the leg work for Wall Street analysts. Lawyers there do pre-trial discoveries etc. for cases here. I don't think it will ever stop; this "globalization" thing has structurally changed the economy. It's not...

My new neighbor: The most evil man on earth

Do you need an FCC licence for it? I bought a pair of GMRS walkie-talkies recently for next to nothing, and found out I need an FCC licence for them because they have a 5 mile radius (don't remember the watts). The licence costs $75. I returned the radios - just wasn't worth it. I believe the...

The usual - brighten, darken, adjust contrast, red-eye removal, adjust color, hue, saturation, exposure. If I can fix different parts of a photo, that'll be really great - like overexposed sky with underexposed subject. I don't think I'll ever be purposely blurring the photo or sticking alien...

Good Idea/Bad Idea: 7-in-1 USB Media Drive

I'll third the drive letter problem. Installed a 10-in-1 reader with 2 slots that gobbles up 2 drive letters. But Tea's point about convenience is very important. I take it everybody here prefers to pull the media out of the camera to transfer images? This is one thing that really bugs me -...
