    XP Picture and Fax Viewer

Man, I HATE the XP picture viewer. I own ACDSee, and I like it much better. ACDSee is non-free, and versions after 3.x suck progressively more, but there's a similar program that works just as well: IrfanView. It's a much more flexible program, capable of doing a lot of things XP's viewer can't.

Check the For Sale forum. Couple people have offered X15s recently, if you really want speed. Raptors (sorry Mickey) mostly seem to be an expensive mistake. Just ask ddrueding.

Sigh. So what you're saying is, because I'm not part of the majority, there's no reason to serve my interests as a citizen of the representative republic. I'd say that says a lot about you and your beliefs. See, if we went very far down the path that viewpoint leads us, we would get to a place...

My new neighbor: The most evil man on earth

Also, I did some checking, and it doesn't look like his Baby Monitor is the culprit. I saw one just like it this afternoon and it's a 2.4GHz variety. Also, my "A" equipment works fine if I take it someplace else and use it. This is a very curious thing.

The FCC is too busy prosecuting obscenity violations, creating radio monopolies and being run by a 30something who doesn't have internet access at home to do anything about interference in the extremely-short-range low-power 5GHz band.

The only down side - which I wasn't thinking of when I posted earlier, is that an amplified signal in either 2.4 or 5GHz range, might keep someone I don't want to aggravate from using his/her phone.

    Should Rumsfeld keep his job?

Looks to me like a drop-dead date for the US to end its operations. The words "End the mandate for the muiti-national force" are a good clue. We are still a "multi-national force", right? "Coalition of the Willing" ring any bells? I seem to recall some discussion about the US pulling out at the...

    Should Rumsfeld keep his job?

Bush administration, and Mr. Bill Green, re-define the word "soon" as == Two Years. As in "I plan to pay my mortgage company again soon, like maybe April 2006." or "Soon the child I'll be conceiving 15 months from now, through some kind of goddamn miracle, will be born." or "That Glacier...

I can see the monitor through a window, especially at night, when their lights are on and the blinds are open. The worst thing is that he appears to be using his WLAN to share a dialup connection and a couple printers. I keep thinking how evil it would be to print out a bunch of crap on his printers (That? What? You don't like printouts of Paisley patterns?), but, again, that's probably illegal somehow. :(

Need a TV - help please

It depends. Some titles look a lot better on HDTVs with progressive scan DVD players. Others don't. I saw a lot more problems with 3:2 pulldown - basically bad film-to-DVD transfers than I noticed on my first actual TV (which I bought maybe 2 years ago). Also. DVD=Shrink DVDs don't look as...

OK, not really. It's not like he's George W. Bush or anything. But he's pretty bad. This guy moved in about two weeks ago. He works from home and talks on a 2.4GHz cell phone constantly. He has an 802.11 AP (with, hey, all the defaults left in place). These things didn't cause a problem for...

I mean, really, if a technician says "Is there anything else wrong with your computer?", isn't that usually an invitation to respond with the litany of problems one has with one's PC? When I asked them on the phone the contact said "I thought that was the problem you were fixing." I hate...

I got a call from my weekday job on Friday. My boss had a server built and installed at a client site - didn't tell me anything about it. Guess what? The guy at the camera store sold me an Image-Stabilizing 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. The guy at the counter said it was a good "starter" lens, and it was the first thing he recommended. I tried a number of other lenses but ultimately came back to that one. I think the IS really helps a lot.

    Married Student Housing wireless network

100 people on an AP is *way* too many, Blake. Remember that 802.11 is shared bandwidth to the AP. If you're doing 11Mbit wireless then you're talking about splitting ~7.5Mbps (actual wireless throughput) among however many people happen to fall into the same AP's coverage area. Hopefully you'll...

    Thread revisited: Laptop recommendations

I didn't like it either. I think I turned it off about 15 minutes after I got the laptop. I more or less use it on my lap in my living room, or on a desk while at a client site. I don't carry it around much while it's on, so I just decided the drive protection thing was a gimmick that I didn't need.

    Finally….someone who broke ‘the code‘

The amazing thing to me is, Cosby is getting a TON of flack over this from mainstream Black intelligentsia. Michael Eric Dyson and Tavis Smiley both sounded extremely upset when discussing his comments on Smiley's radio program. Now, I may be wrong about this, but if anyone has the right to...
