I still have a Honeywell mouse with feet. I pull it out to show my students. The damned thing refuses to die, and much like an optical, it can be used on any surface.

    Vantec IDE-USB Adapter

Dan's Data reviewed a SATA/IDE to USB bridge a few months ago. I've wanted one ever since. I have a couple IDE to USB bridges. Even those (without SATA support) are kind of expensive. I wish they were cheaper.

Selfishness? Why not give them some respect for saying "I am not at a point in my life where I can devote 18 years to the care of a child?" A woman having an abortion is making a decision to be responsible for her life. Conservatives like the idea of being inflicted with pregnancy as a...

    Modifying boot.ini

You should only have ONE boot.ini file on your machine. One. Not Two. You make the change in one place - whichever drive your computer is configured to boot from. Usually that means your primary master IDE drive. If you copied and pasted the contents of your boot.ini file, there is at least...

    NAS HD Enclosure

I have one in my office that I plug USB drives in to from time to time. I have a couple spare ones that I bought to be APs (they're lousy for that!), where the storage component was an incidental add-on. They work with drives formatted with NTFS, ext2 and FAT32, which is pretty much everything...

AM2 - Let the Games Begin

I was planning to build an AM2 system this afternoon, but Newegg apparently shipped me straight-DDR instead of the 240-pin stuff. I called around. The local shops are still selling 939. The closest place with DDR2 is almost 40 miles away. Several places, I asked if they sell anything Intel, and...

This is the router I mentioned earlier. Wireless range on the stupid thing is about 10 feet, but it's always nice to have more switch ports and I've plugged 32MB thumb drives as well as 250GB hard disks into them.

    More Vista nonsense

There is strong nerd backlash from EVERY new version of Windows. People get tired of hearing it. It is expected. They aren't going to listen, and they are going to expect the same jump as the one they had from Win98/ME to XP. It does not matter what we as techies say. Idiots will buy it just...

    AMD for Dell

Er... any chip ATI makes is going to be a better chip than Intel's integrated graphics options. I was under the impression that the ATI chips were used to provide a more mainstream integrated graphics option for Intel chips.

    Best general-purpose data recovery software?

If you happen to wander back to the thread I made about recovering a very large RAID array (which I am too lazy to look for, since I am sleepy and still in bed), one of the things that I pointed out was that GDB had several "near miss" recoveries that were almost right, but not good enough to be...

    Best general-purpose data recovery software?

For what it's worth, there are times when other programs DO work. I've played with tools that are easier to use for recovering specific, purposefully deleted files FASTER than Get Data Back does, but given the number of plug-ins and options that it has (e.g. RAID recovery), it deserves all the...

    For all the Spinpoint fans

It annoys me immensely that 80GB drives cost $8 less than 160GB drives. But I use 160GBs for home PCs and 250s if someone wants a larger drive. I can't think of a 320GB drive I'd consider appealing enough to buy. 400GB+ drives I've just been buying for myself.
