LiteOn for the most part have been very good for me. I've bought about 50 of them (8 and 16x Dual Layer models, mostly) in the last 3 months, so that's a decent sample size. I've also had good luck with NEC 8x units, but I've only purchased maybe a dozen of those.

That is highly disappointing. I can go from a K6 or Pentium all the way to an Athlon 64 or P4 on a single system image with Via. I haven't had nearly as much luck getting nforce-anything to work that way.

Athlon MPs are a deprecated solution. Anything you can get at this point would be "kinda slow" to begin with. Dual Opterons, on the other hand... Sun makes a very nice dual opteron system that sells for shockingly small sums of money on ebay - $1500 - $2000 for dual FX53s with 2GB of RAM.

If you don't plan to use IE at all, find iexplore.exe and change its NTFS execute permission to "deny" for the Everyone group. That will kill it, but system-level things that still need to use it, like MMCs and Automatic Systemp Update will still function.

P4s are purposefully crippled in that respect. Intel wants people with MP needs to purchase Xeons. There was something of a big deal made of this when the P4 was announced since at the time AMD was planning an MP processor line.

Just to clarify, Fushigi, USB disks on those netgear routers do have to be formatted with whatever format Netgear needs. I don't know what format that is (maybe FAT32 for all I know), but there's stuff in the documentation about needing to format the disk.

There's a hack to set up your own battle.net server, too. Which is a good thing - even if Blizzard doesn't like it (BTW, I hate Blizzard - their games are unfun and then there's the battle.net lawsuit thing). If Blizzard went away tomorrow - and I can only hope it does - people could still play...
