    Photo-printing over network

Here's a fun little problem: Here at work I've got a fairly substantial number of home-type photo printers mixed in with normal inkjets (e.g. HP 932, 870Csi). As for why we don't have a networked laser printer instead, I don't know. But... my boss wants all our classroom PCs to be able to...

    AMD CPU, RAM pricing

RAM prices are up and only going higher. My understanding is that chip makers are concentrating on DDRII and solid state devices rather than making us the DIMMs we need NOW. I'm sitting on four assembled PCs right now because RAM prices are so high. It's really disappointing.

Hard Drive Drawer / Caddy - what's good?

They're semi-proprietary. There are at least three different pinout for the bay-caddy connection, and if you use the wrong one, you toast your drive. I speak from experience here. Find a brand you like and stick with it. I use Kingwin trays.

    Sender Policy Framework

The outbound transport for my home network is qmail. I'm perfectly willing to try it on mine. I'm actually more interested in the fact that I'll have a standard mail server on a standard mail port - verizon blocks port 25, which makes having my own mail server a lot more annoying and a lot less...

    Virtualizing disk Volume(s)

When you think about it, probably 90% of the drives in modern computers are way bigger than they need to be anyway. It isn't like most corporate desktops don't have the space for a program like that. Reading about it, it looks like a pretty good idea. Now, the fact they're sending mubs spam...

I sincerely doubt that there's anyone else here who listens to as much properly mastered classical music as I do. :) A couple of perfect examples of "showpiece" classical works are Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. In both pieces, the range goes from pianissimo to...

To quote Tannin: I can't believe you said that. It is exceptionally important that anyone in a support-type position have a good understanding of what can and cannot be done as a normal user. Adware - The New Scourge

The biggest problems IMO are people who use IE and click "yes" every time they're prompted to do something. That is absolutely the way that people have been conditioned in using a PC. Microsoft's Wizards almost always create a pattern of click "yes" or "next" and, let's be honest, most people...

    Normalizing mp3s

    1. Audiograbber uses a LOUSY MP3 codec. I'd suggest moving to CDex + LAME for ripping directly to MP3. Or I use CDex to do recording to .Ogg. I use EAC for ripping to .WAVs to make mix CDs. 2. If all the tracks are from the same disc, they presumably have been engineered to the same sound level...

    Encrypting CDRW

The basic rule of thumb with EFS is don't mess with it. I'm not aware of a program that can easily break EFS-based file encryption, so if you encrypt something and lose the recovery keys, you're SOL. EFS is a feature of NTFS. A file can't be encrypted and compressed using NTFS builtin...

On the matter of type, in this case, it's a little hard to determine from your posts. Protector (the SJ type) and Councilor are pretty simlar, after all. It boils down to whether or not one thinks you're compassionate/empathic vs being more detached. And that's a hard thing to see from here...

You should be able to use EFS. You'll have to encrypt the files/folders first on an NTFS partition, but they don't lose their encrypted status for being put on other media.
