Why not buy a 3.5" drive in a USB enclosure? You'd have a better choice of manufacturers and more reliability if you went that route, and you wouldn't have to lower yourself to owning Western Digital-anything. Are you carrying this extra drive around?

I have one IDE to SATA bridge. I've disconnected drives from it (SATA, then PATA power), but I can't say I've tried reconnecting one.
