I got the following email.. after following the links (with the referrals etc..) it eventually leads to the following url: http://63.135.127.48/Landing/Fortified/register.html Note the...

    NAS HD Enclosure

Hmm... ok - so you have to reset it a couple times a week. If your experience is typical I can't imagine how they ever sold them... then again, I don't see this in their current product lineup.. hmmm... For my purposes I only would use it for the storage gateway - the access point side I'd...

    NAS HD Enclosure

Hey - I like that storage router idea there Mercutio - certainly looks inexpensive if it works well (I already have a couple USB external boxes with IDE drives...). Can you share more about your experience with this solution? i.e. what did you do with it and were there any gotchas that I...

    NAS HD Enclosure

Downside on that Netgear unit - (?) Seems that it requires it's own special driver software to be loaded on the host - thus it only supports W2K and XP. Not sure what impact that may have on performance or functionality (their marketing folks spin it as being better of course). It does...

    NAS HD Enclosure

Thanks for fixing link... seems that when I put the ). at end of the sentence the auto link creation included those two characters in the link...arg. next time I'll be sure and put a space between the end of the link and the next character. As to "why buy a NAS?" vs "set up old computer"...

    NAS HD Enclosure

I've been searching for an inexpensive home NAS solution... I recently came across the following device: Argosy HD363N (You can see it for sale with specs here: http://www.dealsonic.com/arhd3idetorj.html). Two questions: 1) Anyone have any experience with this device specifically and thus...

Ok - seems that high-value bits are available again - anyone else notice that there are some 6xx and 8xx work units being tossed out? Seems my P4 systems are getting them at least. Not sure how long they are taking to process, but seems to be similar to slightly longer than the QMD's were...

    [news] - Free VMware Server?

Of course "Supported" and "will run" are different things... I have a copy of GSX running on W2k Professional right now... Non-production environment and I have not done a lot to push it, but it seems to do what I ask of it at the moment.

    Why doesn't somebody...

My original thought was actually not an integrated unit inside the computer, rather something that would live outside the computer - i.e. you would replace your normal PS with this "shell" device that would likely also break out the power cables for various devices. I know it takes a lot to...

Given that you have been on my tail in terms of production for a while I figured it may be more fun to talk about it... Got any new production about to come online? I'm playing with a celeron M right now seeing when I can get it a decent packet (just got memory in today to add to it... )...

Better end this before someone posts my SSN, phone number and notifies my first girlfriend where I am :) The winner is indeed fb - too bad I don't have a prize to offer. Guess bragging rights are worth something (otherwise why would we become so obsessive about folding?).

    Why doesn't somebody...

Seems there are quite a few rather knowledgable folks here so I'm curious if anyone can answer this one. Why doesn't somebody create a powersupply/ups combination to replace the current solution plugging your PC into the UPS. What I mean is this - Currently I have my systems on UPS's. Thus...

XP Boot Drive Letter - How to change?

Well, I'm lucky in that I noticed before all apps installed... reinstalling now (w/o card reader installed) now... Live and learn. Thanks for considering the question :)

XP Boot Drive Letter - How to change?

Stupid problem here... hope there is a way to fix it w/o a full re-install. I set up a new system and installed a USB multi-card reader, then installed XP. What I didn't notice at the time (until completely done) is that for some reason the card reader took up drive letters C,D,E,F,G - and the...

    150GB Raptor announced

Just sharing random data I found... I'm not really in the market to pay $2/Gb for a drive these days... Now I do remember when I was excited to buy my first drive for $1/Mb (it was a WD 340Mb IDE drive as I recall...).

    150GB Raptor announced

Just in case you are looking to pick one up today... (their model number is WD1500ADFD but it does look like it is the same drive... ) NewEgg has it for $295 +5 S/H (note Limit one per customer so I guess you won't get to set it up in a RAID from them!)...

Well, I think I just might have added another P4 to the mix... runtime depends on whether my mother keeps her system on or finds that little "moon button" too irresistible. However, it will plug along whenever it's on... (yes I did tell her it is there, heh). So, perhaps if we get 1/2 time out...

    NiMH Batteries

Re: Recommendation on charger that can do single AA battery? Get a MH-C401FS from Thomas Distributing. It has 4 separate charging circuits and can do 1, 2, 3 or 4 batteries at a time. I use one for both AA and AAA cells. Thanks for the link - just what I was looking for...

It is not unreasonable also for them to send the same work unit out twice and compare results - at least some percentage of the work units (i.e. monitor for abuse/problems). Just a thought... I'd seriously consider this approach if I were running such a project.

    NiMH Batteries

Recommendation on charger that can do single AA battery? Slightly off topic from the original post, but the expertise appears to be reading this topic... What I'm really wanting is to be able to charge 3 at a time, but I assume best I'll be able to find is a normal "double" and the ability...
