I have a couple of Gmail invites to give away. First come, first serve. Just give me your email address here or in a pm.

I have 2 more invites, if anyone is interested. They gave me 5 today. I have a feeling that gmail is close to going public.

I've got 54 if anyone needs one, or 10. Send me a PM with an e-mail address and I'll send you a gmail account.

I never gave away any of mine (nobody wanted any), and I've still got only 6 left, thank heavens.

There was a news item a couple of days ago that they seem to be ready to go live. The abundance of invites is a consequence of the desire to assimilate. The Borg are here.

Actually - and this probably violates a EULA of some kind - it strikes me that a gmail account could very easily be used for a file cache for SF users.

Didn't someone mention a plug-in sort of thingie that would let you use your gmail space as a web 'hard drive'? Then just share the ID & PWD and you're done.

Aw crap, that other thing was supposed to be a PM.

Want me to remove the public e-mail address? Also, since Fushigi beat me to it, do you need any more gmail accounts (or anyone else)? :)

I think I must be the last person alive on Earth who does not have a gmail account. The gmail service includes POP access, right? If so, does anyone have an invite they'd like to part with?

Sheesh, they've given me 50 invites. PM me your current email addy and I'll send you one.

I read a news item today that they're upping the storage to 2GB. Yahoo is going from 250MB to 1GB. We can stop buying disks now. Just get a fast connection!

I swear that this is a legitimate and true story:

The 10MB maximum attachment is somewhat limiting for those of us who use and mount GoogleFS drives. Frankly, it's a pain.

But today I had a student send me an email asking how he could store some naughty pictures in a place his young-but-old-enough-to work-a-pc daughter could not find them...

and I noticed he had a gmail account.

There's no maximum number of files you can store...

It really *IS* a good way to store your porn!

What is the maximum attachment size for email sent to Gmail and Yahoo accounts, does anybody know? Specifially, an email with multiple attachments (pics).

Gmail is 10MB. That also means the largest single file a mounted GMail drive can store is 10MB, but you can have lots of 10MB files or messages with up to 10MB in them..

Yahoo Mail Plus gives me 2GB and a 20GB/file limit.

Thanks, Merc. That explains something; a cousin emailed about 9 pics in a single email that was ~ 14.5 MB to my Yahoo email a/c. I got the email, but It's a bear to download these to the local drive; Yahoo's interface sucks so bad. I tried forwarding the email to my ISP email a/c (Adelphia) and my Gmail a/c, but no luck, of course. My cousin sent it from his work email a/c at Oracle.

My wife's co-workers frequently email pics of compnay events and family pics to each other, from-to their email a/cs within the company, and these flow without a problem internally, but not to the outside world. In this day and age of digital pics, ISPs, Yahoo, Gmail, et. al. should bump up the limits.

A client of ours tried to mail a 270MB attachment to my gmail account. Strangely enough, I never got it.

I'm in the same boat. I have 50 invites at one account, and 49 at another. Everyone who wanted one now has one, so they are hard to get rid of.

Doug, When I first got my Gmail account, they gave me several invites (10? 20?) which I never used. At one point, they pulled all the invites and I had none. I hadn't checked my Gmail account in several months (i don't actually use it). When i wanted one, I checked and found there were 50. I've given three from then to now, and they keep replenishing it. That's why I made my earlier post.

Gee, this i guy certainly trips up my sentences.

Sent. Only 49 more to burn.

Why don't they just open it up to the public? It has gone through enough beta testing. Or is going to be another Orkut? Where you have to cool enough to get an invite to be able to join.
