Well, the site has been up for a few days now, and I've been trying to keep track of how much everything is used. Let me break down how phpBB2 reports this info so far:

  • Number of posts: 1000
    Posts per day: 68.66
    Number of topics: 83
    Topics per day: 5.70
    Number of users: 48
    Users per day: 3.30
    Board started: 14 Jan 2002 22:48
    Avatar directory size: 10.85 KB
    Database size: 2.57 MB
    Gzip compression: ON

I've also kept track of usage and here is a little bit of what I've tracked.

At the current usage, and figuring 0% growth in users (unrealistic I know) the current increase in database size would eventually consume the space on this site in 335 days using 1.49 MB per day with a total space amount of 500 MB

Currant bandwidth usage for the past few days has been averaging 33MB per day. I figure at least 30%-45% of that usage is from me testing, uploading, and deleting files. Currently this site can handle 650 MB per day leaving us at roughly 5% usage per day? (Is my math correct?)

Just wanted to share how things are going on this end of the stick!

Thanks Doug!

I think you have a fair time to go.

1000 messages = 2.57MB
1 message = ~2.6KB/message
70 new messages a day = 182KB/day
500MB will take 2,813 days to fill = 7.7 years

Your transfer rates look pretty good, too...

33MB a day, of which (say) 30% is testing = 23MB/day = 3.5% usage

In other words, the existing members would be able to post 2,000 messages a day instead of the current 70, or the number of users (assuming new members post/view on average the same amount as existing ones) can increase to 1,371.

Of course, my maths could be wrong. :)

I am omnipresent
Seems to me that with just over 2000 message (gads, a quarter of them mine and Tannin's), we're about due for another status update here.

Any words, Doug?
