Learning Storage Performance
Well, I finally dumped my 'experimental' IDE RAID0 C drive. It was a pair of 30Gb GXP 75s. Yeah, I know I know! I just could not be arsed to muck around with it, but I have been living on borrowed time for too long now.
I finally got round to 'home testing' a new Fujitsu MAP series 36GB 10K SCSI HDD for my PC. What an amazing drive. It is way faster than the old IBMs even in general Windows use let alone moving my files around. It has a much 'snappier' feel to it that a Cheetah as well. What a drive! I thought I would give one a go over a Cheetah 10K.6 on the strength of the SR review, and boy am I glad I did. I have used Cheetahs many times before in the machines that I sell, but this is my first experience with Fujitsu SCSI. If things go reliably well, it will not be my last.
