Athlon FX

The successor to the Duron....Athlon FX.

Sounds promising to me as long as it brings prices down further and increases competition. However, I'm thinking this may just cause prices of the AthlonXP to stabilize or maybe even go up closer to the P4 as now AMD will have a more direct competitor with Celeron. Thoughts?

Sounds nice. A more robust, but less expensive value-line CPU would be nice. This Thorton core almost sounds like the previous Thoroughbreds.

I don't understand the name change to AthlonFX... personally, i think they should just call it an AthlonXP and replace the T-breds with the new Barton cores exaclty the way they replaced palominos with the T-breds.

I guess AMD feels they need some more distinction between the 2 products.

If they have duron-like prices (ie, if current XP 2400s get a hair cheaper) it sounds like a good deal to me.

My immediate reaction - is their some tie between Nvidia (FX Video cards) and AMD (FX Processors) - Cross marketting? Otherwise I smell a trademark infrigement case in the making.
